Practicum I Reflection
I am extremely pleased with my progress throughout this semester. While initially I had a difficult adjustment to the clinical environment, I advocated for my education and sought every opportunity to practice gathering a full history and physical exam, developing differential diagnoses, and thinking of a basic treatment plan. As I move forward into practicum II, I want to build upon my knowledge and be more confident in my decisions as a healthcare provider.
Next rotation, I strive for more independence and responsibility. I find that I work best when I am thrown into situations where I need to work under pressure and rely on my knowledge and intuition to guide my care. I learn best by teaching and taking a hands-on approach. Therefore, I would like to document, teach my patients about medications, and develop a plan of care independently by the end of my semester.
Focus for Practicum II - Knowledge Expansion, Dissemination and Research
Clinical Documentation - I will complete patient encounters and document a SOAP note in the medical record at least five times during my next clinical rotation by the end of the semester.
Pharmacology - I will learn the mechanism of action, indication, dosing, adverse reactions, and patient education for at least 3 medications per week during by the end of the semester.
Plan of Care - I will be able to diagnose and develop a plan of care with lab work, diagnostic exams, medications, refferals, and follow ups for at least eight patients with minimal assistance from my preceptor by the end of the semester.
