Participate

Volunteers around the world gather locally each month for our group meetings to do four things:

We hear from a guest speaker on a different aspect of global warming science, politics, or policy.

Celebrate our success, including growth, legislative progress, and published media from across the world.

We build on our knowledge and our ability to communicate it persuasively by practicing laser talks.

Each month CCL provides coordinated actions for each chapter that build political will for a livable world.

The Five Levers of Political Will

These are the five core activities that all Citizens’ Climate Lobby chapters leverage to bring citizens into the political process and to ensure their contribution is constructive and makes more good possible. We call these activities the “levers of political will.” For each of these levers, there is a committee focused on the success of that activity. Take a look at the descriptions below and see if you feel drawn to help out in any of these areas.

To really help our chapter leadership plan for the future, consider filling out our Volunteer Interests Questionnaire to let us know how you think you might be interesting in contributing.

We train citizens how to lobby in support of our Carbon Fee and Dividend proposal by building friendly relationships with our federally elected representatives.

We train citizens how to engage with and influence the media. We write letters to the editors and op-eds, meet with editorial boards and work to place stories in all forms of media.

We recruit and educate the public on climate solutions, citizen advocacy and how to participate with one’s government.

We seek to educate, build partnerships with and gain the support of community leaders and non-governmental organizations, both nationally and locally.

It is through the growth and management of the local CCL group/chapter, that it becomes possible to push on the other four levers for building political will.

CCL's Climate Actions

Beginning in January of 2023, CCL has transitioned from the Monthly Calling Campaign (MCC) to a new program that we are tentatively calling "CCL’s Climate Actions."

CCL's Climate Actions builds upon the success and lessons learned in the MCC. Actions will be more quickly and strategically timed to bill movement in Congress. They will include not only phone calls but also alternatives such as texts, emails, letters, and social media postings.

If you are already a CCL member, you will automatically be enrolled in CCL's Climate Actions. Similar to MCC, you can expect an SMS or email about once a month to take action.

If you're not a member of CCL and you'd like to become one, sign up at citizensclimatelobby.org.

Over 5500 MCC callers have made 63,000 calls to Congress over the past 3 years. On behalf of everyone at CCL, thank you to all callers for all of your advocacy! Your calls to Congress have helped to get climate policy enacted!

Write to Congress

Write Congress about the Energy Innovation & Carbon Dividend Act

Support the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, H.R. 2307. When enacted, this bipartisan legislation will lead to healthy people, a stable climate, and help put Americans back to work.

Research shows that customized messages have the greatest impact, so be sure to personalize the example message before you send it to your members of Congress.
