Who are we?

A group of citizens concerned about climate change

We are a Michigan-based chapter of Citizens' Climate Lobby (CCL), a non-profit, nonpartisan, grassroots advocacy organization focused on national policies to address climate change. Whatever our backgrounds, we’re all united by a commitment to making our voices heard as we call for a healthy climate future. By focusing on shared values rather than partisan divides, we build relationships with community leaders and with federal elected officials and with Congress, always starting from a place of respect, gratitude, and appreciation

What do we do?

We use our talents for political advocacy

We’re committed to building the political will for the climate solutions we all need. As empowered citizens, we talk with neighbors, friends, and local officials about how national climate action can help ensure a healthy future while strengthening the American economy. Through developing respectful relationships, cultivating and demonstrating local support, and promoting a climate solution that has appeal across the political spectrum, we move our leaders towards action that will preserve a healthy climate and a livable world.

Our goal: get climate solutions passed into law

Our primary goal right now is teaching lawmakers, organizations, influential people, and citizens within our congressional districts about a bill introduced in Congress, H.R. 2307, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which we believe would be the most effective climate solution if enacted into law. We seek to bring the effects of the climate crisis and how this bill could work to solve it to everyone we meet in the hopes that they will endorse the bill and maybe even become advocates themselves.

As of 2023, CCL's policy agenda is now focused on these 4 areas:

Where are we located?

This chapter is focused on 5 congressional districts in Michigan: 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13.

We currently are meeting on the 1st Wednesday of every month at 6:30 pm, with some meetings done virtually via Zoom and some using a hybrid method (both in-person and virtual). Please register for events via the CCL Community Site or see our event page to see if an in-person option will be offered.

If you would like to attend a meeting in person, we will be holding them at one of the two locations below.

Hazel Park District Library

For the time being, we will be having hybrid meetings at the Hazel Park District Library in the activities room near the main entrance from the parking lot.

Hazel Park District Library
123 E 9 Mile Rd, Hazel Park, MI 48030

Birmingham Unitarian Church (BUC)

We will be holding select meetings and other events at Birmingham Unitarian Church (BUC) in one of the colored door classrooms. Masks are required. Please see the provided map and images for directions on how to find the church and the classrooms. Thank you to the BUC for endorsing the bill H.R. 2307, and for allowing us to use a meeting space free of charge!

Birmingham Unitarian Church
38651 Woodward Ave
Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304

How to find the colored door classrooms

From the parking lot, follow the paved path on the left away from the main entrance, around the backside of the building. You will see a playground area with picnic tables on your left as you come around the bend. Follow the path to the right, through the gate, and into the courtyard. Locate the door matching the color for this meeting.
