(06/12/2024) - Cindy and Alyssa :)
Hola! It’s Cindy and Alyssa here!
Today we had a breakfast sandwich with tater tots and fruit. It was very deliciouso as always. Then, Cindy, Jasmine, Samuel, and Alyssa got coffee from the cafe at base (also very deliciouso!!)
Afterwards, our two teams (yellow and blue) combined to go together to the dump. On the way there, the boys' van's tire popped (but it was fixed). The drive there was two hours long but our van had a lot of fun because we were playing worship songs on blast and got to bond as a team. We stopped at a grocery store to use the restroom but we found out that we had to pay for toilet paper (???) but thank God there was a nice lady who gave us some. After using the restroom, we had sandwiches and snacks for lunch.
When we arrived at the dump, we sorted all the food supplies we bought (rice, beans, oil, soup, water). The pastor of the church at the dump, Julian, prayed and blessed us before we went and handed out food and water to the people there. We separated into three groups and handed out the bags of food as we prayed for the people for health, safety, family, and for them to know God. The people at the dump find metals and burn them to make a living and some of them chose to stay, as one lady there puts it, "I want to make a living without harming other people, like stealing from others" (translated and paraphrased). Alyssa's group did a skit and played with the children at the dump after we finished passing out the food while Cindy's group stayed longer to pray for the people they met.
After around 3 hours, we were all sad to leave, as we all felt touched and humbled by our experience there. On the way back, most of us in the girls' van were asleep as we listened to calm worship songs.
Then, we had some dinner which was nachos consisting of salad, rice, chicken, beans, salsa, and guacamole, which was deliciouso :) We also talked to the girls from ACF (another youth group from Alaska) and we shared our testimonies with them.
For our evening session, we had a sermon from Ivan which talked about shalom (peace) and how we need to find peace from God and spread it throughout the world. Instead of our usual worship session, there were various stations to reflect our time at YWAM and listen to God's voice as we listened and sang along to the worship songs. Some of the stations included writing letters to God, painting pictures about your experience at YWAM, and making bracelets.
And this concludes our blog, buenos noches!
Signing off,
