Mission Day 6

Day 6 - Sun 6/17/18 (Sarah & Jamie)

We woke up to a light rainy gray sky for a change on this Sunday morning. YWAM cook had prepared some yummy breakfast burritos for us to consume. This is certainly one of the best benefits of the YWAM STM as we do not have to worry about making any food.

After eating our burrito breakfast, we went to our morning session where we played some games and then watched a video about how people can still find Joy even under persecution. Once the session ended, we used some spare time to practice worship songs as well as getting into our Sunday church formal clothing.

We then loaded up on to the bus and headed towards the church that we plan to attend which was called "Samaria Igesia Evangelica" which we had been there two years ago. The church was small and situated next to a dirt road, neighboring by a small cow field. We filed in and worshiped with the small congregation of around 50 people and sang in Spanish and watched the lyrics on an old projector.

Despite the small building and old equipment, the congregation in the church still worshiped with great passion and joy. The church pastor (Mirella) then gave a message about how God's love can never be separated from us (Romans 8:38--39). She then invited us to lead a worship song. We lead a song called "One Way" with only a guitar and our voices. Despite not knowing the language, the people still sang and filled with joy. Then a lady gave a heart felt testimony about how her eyes were healed through a miracle.

Several members from our team (Jamie, Sarah, Oliver) then gave our own testimonies. Uncle Jeff also gave a short message about the power of the cross. Sunday service then ended and the church prepared an authentic Mexican lunch for us. We had lunch with them and conversed with the church members and the kids, but it was soon time to leave. We waved good-bye and headed back to base.

After changing back into more casual wear, we headed towards downtown Ensenada for some shopping and sightseeing. Uncle Poh treated us all for some fresh fruit yogurt from Sweet Berry as we walked down the street that was filled with souvenirs and shops. Most of us didn't buy anything, but we enjoyed seeing the shops and the local people nonetheless.

We then went back to the base as we rested and had enchiladas for dinner. We then headed off to our evening session which was "Injustice Night." YWAM staff made everyone line up outside the worship hall and only let in 6 people at a time. We each were given a letter and had to go down a path corresponding to our letter which addressed human trafficking. We each went through a simulation that showed the perspectives of those affected. Afterwards, we had reflection and a discussion about what we saw and what we can do on our part to lessen this tragic trend. Some people even shared about how they were affected or victimized by this sinful industry.

After the heavy night of discussion, we headed to bed as quiet time had already started by the time we ended.
