Mission Day 4

Day 4-Friday 6/16/18 (Lisa & Linda)

Today was our second day of outreach! We began the day with an American style breakfast consisting of toast, eggs, and fruits. Then we went to the morning session where we watched a video which was about a woman in Iraq who was persecuted and martyred by Isis and her own family for believing in Jesus and remain steadfast in her faith.

It was definitely an eye opener and reminder for us as Christians to know how blessed we are to live in the US in the comfort of religious freedom. circumstance and environment might be around the world. Yet, in the Bible, God mentioned about persecution faced by Christians which is still happening in certain parts of the world and how we need to pray for them and "cover their backs" and encourage them. After the message, we were asked to tape papers to our back and wrote encouraging phrases for both strangers and friends as a way to motivate others. From all the encouraging words written in the paper, we then each chose an inspiring word to name for ourselves.

With those inspiring word in our hearts, we headed to our next outreach destination for the day which was called : "Circulo Adante" or "The Walking Circle" which is an after school program for the kids living nearby in a very poor community. Most houses do not have electricity nor water. The village was located in a remote hilly mountainous area with houses built on dirt land. Some of the houses were built by Homes of Hope, a program closely associated with YWAM. The road was very hard to drive on as it was rocky and hilly so we had a pretty tough and rocky drive. The after-school building consisted of 2 buildings/houses built on a hill. In the morning, we painted the guest room where people could sleep and also picked-up trash around the perimeter, cleaned and organized the meeting room.

We then ate our basic outreach lunch consisting of ham/cheee and PBJ sandwiches with fruit, cookies and water and then did VBS with over 30 kids and played games with them, including soccer (we won 2-1 against the kids!). We left at around 3:30pm and had a break until dinner, where we played cards and headed to Oxxo (Mexican 7/11) while some stayed behind to shower. Dinner was yummy pork chop (spicy and mustard) with mash potatoes and salad.

We then had our evening session, where we had moments of reflection and worship. There were several stations that was setup and one of them being a foot washing station, representative of the time Jesus washed His disciples’ feet. We were given the opportunity to wash the feet of others and vice versa. Then our team went to get some tacos to wrap up our day! It was truly an amazing and fulfilling day.
