Day 1 - 6/6/25 (James & Jessica Yang)
Hola! This is Day 1 of our trip!
All of us arrived at CCIC-TV around 6:00 am prior to driving to the airport. Many of us seemed tired, others seemed very excited! We took a group photo and got into our individual cars to drive to the San Jose Airport.
We arrived at the airport around 6:50 a.m., and checking in our suitcases went fairly smoothly—aside from getting yelled at by an angry lady. After clearing security, some of us grabbed Starbucks while others killed time playing Brawl Stars. We boarded the plane and took off around 8:30 a.m. During the flight, some people slept while others played games like “Poison,” where you try to avoid picking the item secretly marked as toxic. After landing, we were picked up by three vans, and our group met our driver, Oscar.
We headed to In-N-Out for lunch, where a kind woman handed out paper hats and activity booklets to all of us. After eating, we made our way to the border. Since our stay exceeded seven days, we had to pay an extra $43 per person to cross — a bit of a bummer. Following a quick restroom break, we drove two more hours before finally arriving at the YWAM base. Upon arrival, we received our camp shirts, fanny packs, bracelets, and room keys. Once settled in, we hit the new sports area and played a mix of games, including pickleball, volleyball, and basketball. Volleyball quickly became the group favorite.
Then at 5:30 pm, we headed to the main courtyard area where we got our dinner! It was a tortilla wrap with meat, onions, and other added condiments. After we finished dinner, we had a great worship session followed by a short sermon led by Luis, I believe his name was. He talked about how God chose US even though we aren't deserving of His grace. Yet, because He is a good and loving God, he called us to do works. He shared about his experience when he was 'called' to speak and preach to other people about God's Word. Preceding this, there was a cup grabbing game where Samuel won 2nd place for the green team. Go Samuel, you are so cool!
After, we got into our teams and discussed the plans we had for the rest of the time we had in Ensenada. We then went to OXXO to buy snacks and drinks. That is it for Day 1! Good night and stay tuned for the rest of the days!
