SITE: Fluoroscopy reading room
PROTOCOLING: Protocols are performed by the fellow, faculty and Kevin. If protocoled already, fellow should still review for the day and bring up any issues with protocol if new information would require modification or if you think the study should be done differently. Cut/paste any relevant history from Epic into the protocol text box.
WHAT STUDIES DO I READ: Focus on becoming proficient on all types of fluoroscopy cases. There is a binder for each fellow in the back of the reading room that contains sections for each fluoro study that is routinely performed in our department. Proficiency guidelines are provided for each type of exam and once mastered, can be signed off on by a staff radiologist or Kevin, our Radiology Physician Assistant (RPA).
Shadow attending or Kevin for the first day(s) until you feel comfortable then wean yourself or the attending and Kevin will wean themselves off you as you show you are proficient based on your proficiency sheets. Kevin can't do any tube placements because of billing issues, so you will do all of those.
Total fluoro studies can be be 12 or 24 depending on the day and add-ons. Studies are scheduled between 8 am and 3:30 pm but can be added on before or after if needed urgently or emergently. If caught up, one can read non-stat radiographs with the fluoro staff radiologist, but let them know if you read a stat exam so they can sign it off quickly.
CONTRAST ORDERS: Faculty will be paged to sign these orders.
ADDITIONAL: If intussusceptions present during the day it is courteous to alert the fellows who are elsewhere in the department because these exams usually present after hours and all fellows may not get enough experience seeing reductions.
ATTIRE: Scrubs are acceptable especially in the COVID-19 era.
