Carlisle Elementary (CES)
Our elementary school serves students in grades Preschool through Grade 3. The library has 8,649 books available to its students in the library. CES students checked out 14,562 times this school year and you can see the breakdown of circulations by the type of book below. Based on this circulation data, an emphasis could be placed on biographies and the story collection books to draw students' attention and interest. The easy reader books were reorganized in January and highlighted by library staff, especially to our Kindergarten and 1st grade students. It will be interesting to see how circulation numbers increase for these "learning to read" books.
Hartford Upper-Elementary
Hartford serves students in grades 4 & 5. The library has 8,464 books available to its students in the library. Students checked out 11,321 times this school year and you can see the breakdown of circulations by the type of book below. As you can see, students check out far fewer picture books compared to the PK-3 grades and are very interested in graphic novels. Fiction books are not far behind, however, as our students begin the transition from "learning to read" to "reading to learn." Potential exists to expose students to more nonfiction, particularly biographies, though there are a number of nonfiction and biography books within the graphic novel section.
Carlisle Middle School
Our middle school serves students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The library has 5,416 books available to its students in the library. Students checked out 3,606 times this school year and you can see the breakdown of circulations by the type of book below. Possibly as a reflection of students' developmental growth and involvement in other activities at this age, circulations decrease relative to the elementary years. Many middle schoolers are looking to read a complete story which may explain why fiction books are checked out more often than graphic novels and nonfiction. Our focus is on providing high-quality books (e.g. award winners, highly rated titles) as well as titles in which our diverse array of students can see themselves positively reflected in the stories and characters.
Carlisle High School
Our high school serves students in grades 9 through 12. The library has 4,442 books available to its students in the library. Students checked out 1,373 times this school year and you can see the breakdown of circulations by the type of book below. While students are checking out far fewer books compared to the lower grades, fewer circulations in the library do not necessarily mean students are reading less. Students are highly engaged in reading within their English-Language Arts classes and they also have many demands competing for their time and attention that may push free-reading to the side. Despite this shift of focus, we remain committed to stocking the high school library shelves with high-quality, award-winning books by diverse authors.
