There is an emphasis on creating a genuine bond from nonjudgement and positive regard that allows for transparency. I respect that this can be a delicate process. Depending on your personality and life experiences, it takes time to develop trust and warm up to exploring parts of yourself with another person.
One could expect to be engaged in the process weekly or every other week for an undetermined amount of time. Of course, this can decrease as needed. Things like insurance, and other unforeseen life events on both sides, can effect this. One major advantage of private pay- no employment or insurance interruptions dictating course of treatment.
I prefer to start with where the client is at, meaning I want to understand the “presenting problem-” why did you make this appointment? From there, rapport develops and we go at your pace. Once people decide if I am the right fit for them, most of my client's end up being long-term.
I provide services to individuals 18+ and cannot provide long-term family or couples therapy. Guest star appearances can be appropriate.
I cannot be available at all times. This means I am allowed a standard of 24-48 hours to respond to any outreaches. If you are in immediate danger or experiencing an emergency, please go to the local hospital, call 911 or 988. If that is not necessary, I encourage you to write it down and I'll look forward to processing it at your designated session time.
I am not on-call, however, texting or emailing for scheduling purposes, is encouraged. Communicating with me is the best way to avoid any unwanted fees.
I am ethically obligated to refer out any client situation that would be out of my scope of competency or inappropriate for private practice.
Sometimes symptoms are so harmful, or have been untreated for so long, a person may need more to get better. After that determination has been made by either myself, the client, or us together, I will direct you to a higher level of treatment.
This generally means directing you to in and out patient treatment facilities or referring you to a psychiatrist. It is your responsibility to know your insurance and what is available to you in your plan.
