I had the opportunity to participate in the World Economics Competition (WEC) which tested my knowledge of economics and problem-solving skills. The competition consisted of about 120 multiple choice questions and asked us everything from economic calculations, to terms, to solving case-study and data-based problems. It required critical thinking and quick decision making along with a substantiated understanding of the current global economic trends. Preparing for the WEC was intense and rewarding. I spent time revising economic theories, practicing data analysis. The competition was online and we had only 100 minutes to answer all the questions. During the competition, I had to keep my composure and think logically throughout. This experience strengthened my analytical skills and gave me valuable insights into real-world applications of economics. Competing at this level also gave me a learning opportunity as I had not known all the concepts that were there, and it has motivated me to explore economics further. My team consisted of 5 other members and we were able to qualify from the continental qualifier round on to the next one.
CAS Outcomes
2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
1. Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth
5. Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
For International Day this year, I took on the challenge to choreograph an entire dance performance completely on my own. The performance included three different songs, one minute each, and I was responsible for every aspect of it from selecting the songs to teaching the choreography. I had to decide on the formations for each song, and assign them to each person. Since the group included both students and teachers, I had to modify the choreography to better suit different skill levels while making sure that the performance was energetic and dynamic. With very little practice time, I had to teach the entire dance efficiently while ensuring that everyone understood what they needed to do. This required a lot of clear communication, patience, and adaptability, as I often had to adjust the choreography based on how the group was doing. Despite the challenges, the final performance was successful and seeing everything come together on the performance day was rewarding. Organizing this performance entirely by myself not only tested my leadership and creativity, but also strengthened my ability to manage time and instruct others efficiently.
