By-Laws

(Amended January 15, 2025)

ARTICLE I - Organization - Competition and Duties

1.01 Chairperson

A.   Preside at all meetings.

B.   Arrange for the membership to be notified of meetings.

C.   Appoint Committees.

D.   Hold all meetings on scheduled times and dates and call special meetings as needs arise.


1.02 Vice Chairperson

A.   Preside at all meetings in the absence of the Chairperson.

B.   Serve for the unexpired term of the Chairperson in the event of his/her vacating the office.

C.   Assume the responsibilities which the Chairperson may delegate.


1.03 Secretary

A.   Prepare and distribute minutes of Board and General Meetings.

B.   Arrange for notices to members as required. 

C.   Arrange for publication of Annual Directory for members.

D.   Update and maintain membership roster.         

E.   Send correspondence to members and families experiencing significant life events.


1.04 Treasurer

A.   Collect such fees as might be due from the membership.   

B.   Maintain an accurate record of monies and distribute required reports.

C.   Disburse Association monies at the Board’s direction.              

D.   Handle prize money for all tournaments.

 

1.05 Tournament/Rules/Handicap Chairperson

A.   Represent the Association to the course management regarding the handicap needs of the members including information needed for conducting tournaments.

B.   Work with the Board to determine the formats of monthly tournaments.

C.   Work with course management to schedule and prepare for tournaments, organize participants into flights based on handicaps, determine gross and net score winners for each flight, and coordinate distribution of prizes with the Treasurer.

D.   Manage the online Tee Sheets used by Members to sign up for all events.


1.06  Away Event Chairperson

A.   Work with local golf courses to arrange regular away events at courses other than the home course.


1.07 Technology Chairperson

A. Maintain all online systems and content for the league.

B. Develop new systems and processes to improve functionality and simplify league operations.


1.08  Members-at-Large

A.   Serve on committees as appointed by Chairperson.


1.09 Replacement of Board and Committee Members

A.   Chairperson shall appoint a member to fill unexpired term of any Officer, Board Member or Committee appointed who is unable to complete his/her term of office.

ARTICLE II - Right to Petition

2.01 Any member who Believes that an act of the Board is unfair may submit a petition signed by at least one third (1/3) of the then current members of the Association.  The Chairperson shall call a Special Meeting of the membership within 30 days for consideration and resolution of the petitioner’s complaint.

ARTICLE III - Membership

3.01  Membership applicants must have reached their fifty fifth (55) birthday and be residents of central North Carolina.  The membership of the Cary Senior Golf Association shall be limited to two hundred twenty-five (225) members.


3.02  A 54-year-old person may join as an “Associate Member” at the beginning of the playing season providing they will attain their 55th birthday sometime during the current playing season; however, they will be ineligible for tournament prizes.  After they attain the age of 55, they will become full members with all membership privileges.  An “Associate Member” must pay the annual membership fee at time of joining.


3.03  If a member has a spouse under the age of 55, he/she may, upon payment of the annual membership fee, become an “Associate Member” with all playing rights except that he/she will be ineligible for tournament prizes.


3.04 “Associate Members” have no vote on Association issues.


3.05 An organizational meeting shall be held early in each calendar year, at which time the Home Course will be selected, the golfing year will be designated and annual dues shall be established by the past year’s membership vote.  Dues will not be prorated and must be paid before the first monthly tournament to be eligible for prizes.  No dues shall be refunded after the first round of league golf is played.  


3.06 Membership in Cary Senior Golf Association is valid at the designated home course.

ARTICLE IV - Rules and Regulations

4.01 Tee-off time is between 7:30am and 10:30am on the scheduled date from 1st tee and the 10th tee.  This rule subject to home course approval or change.


4.02 If a member is unable to play on a regular league day (not a tournament day), he/she can play at the home course on Tuesday or Thursday that same week except on a holiday, providing the member: a) indicates to the club he/she is a CSGA member and b) tees-off between 8:00am and 10:30am.


4.03 The Board maintains the right to establish rules and/or committees to address chronically slow play with consequences up to and including member expulsion from the league. Members will have the right to appeal any actions taken by the Board.

ARTICLE V - Insurance

5.01 The League shall maintain liability insurance for the League with a minimum coverage of $1 million.  The league shall also maintain liability insurance for the members of the Board of Directors with a minimum coverage of $1 million.
