When visiting Ipoh, one of the must-do activities is to try the city's famous white coffee. Pair coffee with dim sum in a distinctly Ipoh style to make it even more memorable. Nam Heong at 2, Jalan Bandar Timah is one of the pioneers of Ipoh white coffee with dim sum. The humble Nam Heong kopitiam served as the basis for Old Town White Coffee, a global brand.

Restoran Foh San Dim Sum, which is located on Ipoh's "Dim Sum Street," is one of the city's most famous and oldest dim sum restaurants. This looked to be a must-see attraction for most tourists to Ipoh, and finding a parking spot as well as a seat in the restaurant proved difficult, especially during weekend peak hours (usually 7am-10am).

Ming Court is one of Ipoh's most well-known dim sum restaurants. It's difficult to get a table here because there's always a line, even at 8 a.m., so plan on waiting 30 to 45 minutes during peak hours. Because the siew mai are literally bite-sized pieces, the serving is relatively little, therefore large diners will have to buy many different plates to fill up their bellies. Customers frequently compliment Ming Court on their consistency in quality, since most of their meals are flavorful and well-prepared.

Curry mee is a popular meal among the locals. If regular curry mee is already great, try this curry mee from the well-known restaurant Kak Yah Curry Mee in Ipoh. You can tell the difference between this curry mee and other curry mees by their aromatic scent, which may excite your taste buds. Aside from curry mee, this restaurant also serves nasi dagang, char kuet teow, and murtabak, all of which are fantastic. Only the tastiest foods are served at this restaurant!

Nasi Kandar Ayam Merah also known as Nasi Ganja is located inside Yong Suan Coffee Shop. It is called Nasi Ganja (cannabis) because many claim to be addicted to the deliciousness of this dish, causing it to become so addictive. This eatery has been in operation for over 50 years and is well known by local people. People are willing to wait in a long queue to have this delicious meal. The peak hours of the shop are between 12pm to 2pm.

One of Ipoh famous culinary specialist major in barbeque and roasted dishes. Passed down from father to son and established in Ipoh for more than twenty years, Sun Yeong Wai is now a brand closely synonymous with Roasted Ducks. The duck is indeed well barbecued till perfection leaving you with the crispy texture. The crispy bites at the skin with the moist and juicy texture at meat itself. Every mouthful is just heavenly.

Funny Mountain is listed as the best Tau Fu Fah in Ipoh. Tau Fu Fah (in Cantonese) is also known as Soybean curd if you are wondering. The famous soybean stall is a family-run business and has been on-going for more than 60 years. The wacky name itself has attract attention in a fun way though. The uniqueness of this stall is that they provide “Drive-Thru” service where you can literally enjoy your bowl of Tau Fu Fah in your car. So you can see locals park their car by the roadside to enjoy a bowl of soyabean curd on a hot sunny day.

While some shops serve rice to accompany their delicious chicken, others serve hor fun (rice noodles) instead. Or both! Try both versions while you’re in Ipoh!

Popular among the locals for it’s Chinese Seafood, Mr.BBQ restaurant is one to stand out in Taiping. Not only is the food delicious but the atmosphere of the shop is beautiful. You are definitely advised to make a reservation or booking because the shop is almost always crowded. Customers come to enjoy the yummy seafood and tomyam soup. The restaurants specialty is their Chili ikan bakar. Don’t forget to stop by Mr.BBQ when you visit Taiping.
