In 2005, after participating in local elections and facing almost immediate homophobia, open and unapologetic, I approached the Dallas Gay & Lesbian Alliance and the Collin County Gay & Lesbian Alliance (now GALA North Texas) and asked them to co-sponsor our organization. Carrollton is split between two counties and there were few organizations focused supporting LGBTQ people in the suburban areas. Over time, we moved on from needing the support of the larger organizations. We changed our name to Carrollton Pride and just kept going.
