Through keeping an open mind and open approach, I was able to shift the curriculum to best suit my students interests and needs to make lessons with them not only enjoyable but also accessible. My student showed great interest in medieval music and even participates in medieval festivals. Another guideline I had to create the lesson around, was that they had chronic health issues that impacted their ability to play the horn. With these in mind, I redirected the focus of the horn lessons to create a music learning opportunity that was interesting, inclusive and accessible to my student, focusing on connecting and responding, rather than performance.
