Through consistent social media use, I encouraged readers to engage with our stories, participate in the school community, and apply for the newspaper class. I have produced TikTok content for The Howler’s account to increase engagement and views. Each week, I post recap graphics on Instagram and use X to share story links, expanding readership and strengthening the newspaper’s online presence. Through social media, I have also recognized many students at Wakefield for their newsworthy achievements.
Below are the following of our X, TikTok, and Instagram pages. As you can see, we have the most followers on TikTok, where we have 1612 followers and 237.1K likes across all videos. I use this platform to post promotional content for our stories and to share our application form to join the class. TikTok, along with Instagram, is also an app where I will post short interview segments with students.

Our Instagram is where the majority of my social media efforts are put forth. As stated, I do a weekly recap post, but I also post recognition for students who win awards, as well as a "Meet the Staff" post at the beginning of each year. I believe it is important for our hardworking writers to be recognized across social media! We have 443 Instagram followers.

This is a short video posted on both our TikTok and Instagram pages. My partner and I interviewed Wakfield athletes who committed to college to play a sport. This shed light on our school's athletes and gave them a moment to stand out. I've found that students are more excited to be interviewed and filmed as they get to have their face on social media, where often their friends and family will comment on the videos. The use of our mini microphones in these videos is also a student favorite!
Here is a TikTok video I put together in only a day. When our women's basketball team was set to go to the State Championship, I knew it needed to be covered. However, we found this out a day before the game. So, I rallied together some writers during fourth period to help me interview as many girls from the team as possible. Though stressful and done quickly, the team deserved to be recognized. TikTok is a great way to recognize our students when there may not be enough time to write a whole article.
This is another short video I made for our TikTok page. Each year at Wakefield, we have a "Decision Day" where seniors will wear the gear of the college/university they are set to attend. On this day, I reached out to many seniors who I knew were participating and filmed them for a quick segment where I asked them to share their name, the school, and the phrase associated with its team. This was a simple video and a fun way to recognize all of our hardworking seniors here at Wakefield!
