These cover graphics represent content I created for The Howler’s Instagram page to promote newly published stories and highlight special news, including multiple Best of SNO awards. In addition to advertising articles, I designed posts explaining the importance of student journalism to help recruit new staff members and created promotional content for our application form.
Below is the home page of our website, an area I particularly work on within the SNO platform. I have rearranged our layout, added advertising graphics such as the Mr. Dong Taxi Tea one, added important graphics like our application form and awards, and much more. I have also worked to design our website for mobile phones, as you need to add widgets and images in a separate way from the computer website. The image on the right gives a quick glance of what it looks like on my side to separately design the website for mobile phones. My experience and work on the website dates back to my first year on staff. It has made me experienced in and comfortable with the WordPress platform.
This is the layout style that the judges complimented regarding the article on the new Hunger Games book. For reviews and certain Arts and Entertainment content, I like to have stories displayed like this with the image beside it. This is done within the SNO platform. Displayed above is only one review of an album; however, this entire story consisted of 17 reviews of 17 different albums. I put each of these reviews and album covers into this layout.
Here is more feedback from the NCSMA competition we submitted to last year. This feedback is under the "User Experience and User Interface" section. As stated, the judges liked the ways you can engage with our website, specifically naming the Spotify playlist that users can go to. Each month, our staff submits to a Google Form with songs they like, and we play that playlist throughout the month. I will share this playlist on our website so our viewers can see what songs we listen to. When working on the website, I strive for it to look neat and on theme, but I also want it to be engaging, having many different areas where users can click around and view a variety of content. The judges appreciated the way I have the website formatted.
Here is the playlist widget discussed in the commentary.
