As mentioned, my first editor position was in photography. Picture a freshly 15-year-old Caroline getting rides to Wakefield sporting events, hauling her dad’s large Canon camera into the gym. The first photos I took for The Howler were of the cheer team (pictured below). What started as a simple assignment quickly became something I realized I was good at. As I continued photographing events, I worked to improve my skills by learning new techniques and even downloading photo editing software on my computer so I could refine the images I captured. Even after moving into other roles on the newspaper staff, I continued taking photos for The Howler. The eight photos below represent my best work. From the intensity of athletes in competition to the expressive moments of performers on stage, each image captures raw emotion that speaks for itself. In different ways, these photos give a voice to the moments and stories unfolding in front of the camera.
