CURRICULUM VITAE
Carlo Blasi is Professor Emeritus at the Department of Environmental Biology at Sapienza University of Rome. From 1989 to 2016, he was Full Professor of Plant Ecology at the same university.
He is currently Director of the Scientific Council of the Interuniversity Center for Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services, and Sustainability (CIRBISES).
Within the Italian Botanical Society, he is President of the Commission for the Promotion of Botanical Research in Italy (since 2003) and President of the Foundation for Italian Flora (since 2008).
On behalf of the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, he is a member of the Public Works Committee and a member of the National Commission for Natural Capital.
His most recent interests concern the ecological classification of the territory, vegetation dynamics, and the assessment of conservation status, with research aimed at producing cartographic and descriptive syntheses on a national and regional scale, such as La Vegetazione d'Italia (with the Carta delle Serie di Vegetazione d'Italia), the Prodromo della Vegetazione d'Italia, the Carta delle Ecoregioni d'Italia, and La flora in Italia.
He is the author of over 450 publications, including 240 in international journals and 40 book chapters. He is also the author of several volumes on flora, vegetation, and plant landscapes. He was editor-in-chief of Plant Biosystems from 2006 to 2023, an international journal published by Taylor and Francis (London), and is editor and subject editor of numerous international journals.
Over the last five years, he has participated as coordinator in the following research projects, funded by national and international organizations/institutions on a competitive basis:
· Red List of Ecosystems (2019-ongoing), international competition funded by the Ministry of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea (MATTM), won by the Italian Botanical Society. Role: Principal coordinator.
· LIFE PonDerat - Restoring the Pontine Archipelago ecosystem through management of rats and other invasive alien species (2015-2020). Funded by the LIFE program (EU). Role: Coordinator for the Department of Environmental Biology (until October 31, 2016) and scientific supervisor (ongoing).
· PRIN 2011 Traditional landscapes of Italian agriculture: definition of a multidisciplinary and multiscale interpretative model for planning and management (2013-2016). Project of national interest funded by MIUR: Role: Coordinator for the Department of Environmental Biology.
· LIFE+11 Fagus–Forests of the Apennines: good practices to conjugate use and sustainability (2012-2016).
· II-B/2.1/0512 GREAT Med- Generating a Risk and Ecological Analysis Toolkit for the Mediterranean. Funded by ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme, Grant Agreement no. 39/2377 (2013-2015). Role: Principal coordinator and legal representative.
In the recent past, he was a member of the National Commission for the prediction and prevention of major risks in the field of environmental risk and forest fires, appointed by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (2012-2017), and a member of the Scientific Commission of the Italian Committee for the UNESCO MAB-Man and Biosphere program (2010-2012).
He was also President of the Italian Federation of Natural and Environmental Sciences (FISNA) (2013-2014); President of the International Federation of Phytosociology (FIP) (2009-2013); and President of the Italian Society of Vegetation Science (SISV) (2005-2013).
