Permanent Residency Canada :

You can demonstrate your PR status in Canada by presenting your Canada permanent resident card. When returning on a commercial conveyance, such as an airplane, boat, train, or bus, after traveling outside of Canada, you must show both your passport and your PR card. Before returning to Canada by commercial vehicle, those who are traveling outside of the country without a valid PR card or who are not carrying one must apply for a permanent resident travel document. 

Usually granted for five years, a PR card visa might occasionally be granted for just one year. It is good until the card's specified expiration date. PR cards are exclusively sent by Canada to domestic addresses. You might occasionally need to visit one of the Canadian government's offices to pick up your card. You can request that your PR card be reissued if you discover an error. If a name is too long to fit on the card, we occasionally shorten it.
