Ep. 2: #ListenToThis: UP Silakbo on the Growth and Prevalence of the ElBi Music Scene

Aldrich Agad is a 20 year old, BS Mathematics student from the University of the Philippines Los Baños. Growing up, Aldrich has always been musically inclined, hence when he learned about UP Silakbo, there were no second thoughts about joining. Aldrich has been writing and composing his own music, thus he generally advocates to  his fellow passionate music artists to create their original materials or music, too. Serving as the incumbent president of said cultural organization, Aldrich is elected to head UP Silakbo for the executive year 2022-2023.

Executive Committee. Refers to a committee within an organization that has the authority to lead decision-making instances and is responsible to make sure that it is carried out.

Resident Members. Refers to active members of UP Silakbo in UPLB. The members also act as cultural workers as they serve as the deciding and organizing body of events through ad hoc committees.

Dapit Lifestyle Hub. Name of a production team that organizes gigs in different venues around ElBi. 

Mercato. A weekly food bazaar in Los Baños that opens every Friday where UP Silakbo performs.

Orientees. someone attending orientations; undergoing training/evaluation

Baby Batch. A new set of people/new batch entering an organization.

Body. A large or substantial amount of something; a mass or collection of something.

Burnout. Refers to the feeling of extreme exhaustion–mentally, emotionally, physically—which results from excessive prolonged stress. This can also lead to a state of having no enthusiasm in any activities.

Safe Space. A place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm.

Process. deal with (someone) using an official and established procedure.

GA. General Assembly for organization members

Target Demographic. Refers to specific characteristics of consumers that are used to identify your buyer's persona.

Groundwork. Refers to activities, tasks, and events that are held face-to-face.

Workshop. Refers to an activity where a group of people gather and discuss ideas and learn skills. 

Streaming Online. A method where any media content, be it live or recorded, are made available to be watched, listened to, and viewed on devices that can be accessed via the internet. 

OBS. Open Broadcaster Software.

Outputs. The products that are produced or amount of any products produced by a person, machine, or device.

Production and Recording. The process of creating outputs, in this matter, tracks or audios and recording them. 

Music Cover. A new recording of a song by another artist other than the original artist and/or composer.

Equipment. Materials and/or items used to produce outputs.

Collaborate. Activity where two or more people work together in order to create or produce an output.

Tracks. Audio files that contain a recorded sound of a music.

Silak-Playlist. A list of recorded songs and/or music that is compiled by the UP Silakbo.

Original Materials. Outputs primarily owned (and essentially created) by the artists themselves. 

Passion. The feeling of enthusiasm, desire, or devotion to certain activities, ideas, or concepts.

Avenues. A space where artists can approach a problem or make progress, but not necessarily a physical space. 

Spotify. An online streaming platform that allows users to access digital music and podcasts.

Spotify Account. A personal account in the online streaming platform Spotify. 

OPM Music. Original Pilipino Music, which means musical compositions originally created by Filipinos. 

UPLB Feb Fair. Refers to the annual tradition of UPLB protest fair. 

Bigkisan. The theme highlighted in UPLB Feb Fair 2023. May also refer to UP Silakbo’s song, the official theme song used for this year’s Feb Fair.
