Proposal

In both our educational backgrounds we were able to experience the shift from overhead projectors to document cameras and digital projectors. We remember that nostalgic feeling of the plastic sheets we would all raise our hands to be allowed to go up and write on, move the clear forms around, and show our classmates what we can do. These memories and experiences brought us together for this tipping point assignment. Through articles and research papers, we intend to explore how the rise of the document camera - in conjunction with the digital projector - led to the eventual demise of the overhead projector and how this change has affected and transformed the modern-day classroom. We will take a look at how this conversion opened up pedagogical opportunities and presented a significant environmental benefit (reducing or eliminating the use of acetate transparencies). Interestingly, this evolution took place more quickly in schools and communities with higher socio-economic status. This aspect of unequal access to educational innovation might be reflected in our case study.
