Unit 1 is about aiding you to understand Technology and the processes behind the Internet and everything in the middle. Learning about online communication and online services such as outlook and WhatsApp, how they work and their differences. Here is an example of what I learned, the internet means an interconnected network of computers, this means that the internet is not the cloud, but a lot of wires called backbones run under the sea from one continent to another.
The learning goals of Unit 1 are investigating online communications, online services and the components of the internet and how digital devices exchange and store information and investigating issues with operating online. These are the three learning goals of unit 1 they are based around ubiquitous computing. Ubiquitous computing is a fancy way of saying the internet of things, this is everything having a computer built in such as smart fridges. Also, these leaning goals are teaching you to investigate each of these areas this implies that you will be doing research into the internet, online services, and online communications.
The second learning goal is to investigate the components of the internet and how digital devices exchange and store information. You will learn about the internet and world wide web, how they work and what systems make them work. The third learning goal is to investigate issues with operating systems you will explore viruses and other malware that could affect a computer. You will learn about the different malware such as a root kit, worm or ransom ware.
This unit is an exam unit you will be graded out of 50 marks. There will be 2 distinction question which are worth 8 marks each and normally require you to right a few paragraphs. And then there are the merit questions which are usually 4-6 marks each and are usually asking you to explain the advantages and disadvantage of a topic such as online communication. The pass questions are 1-2 marks each and are multi choice and true or false questions.
