Where were you 20 years ago? I was in Chama the weekend of June 17 – 19, 1994. Were you there?
I was hosting the RMR convention in Chama, N.M. We had 200 people attending the convention and photo special on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad. This was narrow gauge, steam, freight running through the Rocky Mountains.
On Friday evening, we met at the high school gym for introductions, guest speaker and door prizes.
On Saturday, we had an all day trip from Chama to Big Horn Wye and return. K-36, #489 was our road engine. K-27, #463 was our helper to the top of Cumbres Pass. Seven photo runbys were included in the trip. These were near Lobo Lodge, Coxo, Cumbres Pass water stop, turning the train plus a runby at Big Horn, Phantom Curve, Cascade Trestle, and Tanglefoot Loop. Lunch, drinks and snacks were included.
Saturday evening was the board meeting and contest judging.
A 28 minute video is available which includes all seven runbys plus a scene of running around Tanglefoot Loop that I took from the train.
The last scene of the video is of the Hobo Breakfast and contest awards on Sunday morning. Look close, you just might recognize some of the people.
This 'History Corner' is a new addition to the Callboard. We need your input to keep it going. Do you remember when? Have any photos? Let the editor know so he can plan on keeping this going.
