SILVER SAN JUAN - DIVISION 10
The Spring meeting of the Silver San Juan Division was held in Farmington, NM on March 29, 2014.
Guest clinician, Dennis Krausman of the South Suburban Division, graciously drove up to Farmington from Arizona and presented two well received clinics. Topics were “Stock Cars” and “Scratchbuilding a Wooden Depot.”
Local member Ray Schmudde made a thoughtful presentation on “Layout Planning” emphasizing your own individuality, but also looking at the checks and balances between time, money, and space. This was particularly interesting in view of the recent online video presentation on Trainmasters TV where several known model railroaders spoke about the demise or downsizing of their layouts.
The day was completed with a model contest, favorite train awards, presentations from the members “From the Workbench” and layout tours.
The Fall meeting will be held in Durango, time not yet specified. We hope to have an opportunity for a summer activity riding the rails on the Creede Branch with the Denver & Rio Grande Historical Foundation.
Charlotte Pirnat, with the new display poster promoting the NMRA, which had its initial viewing at the Farmington meeting. Hopefully, this will encourage attendees to join the NMRA.
Besides the “Flyer” the official newsletter, the San Juan Division makes use of email “blasts” to remind members of the meetings, announcements posted in the local magazine store which carries a variety of railroad magazines, and a local restaurant noted for its railroad connections.
Denny Krausman receiving a certificate of appreciation from the superintendent of the San Juan Division. Since there is a lot of work in creating their presentations, we like to present our speaker with a token of their time with us.
