Street Crimes Unit (SCU)

• Main gang task force and violent crime unit within the SMPD;

• Members of the Street Crimes Unit operate either in a Class C uniform or in plain civilian clothes in order to identify, lure and apprehend felony criminals who are involved in the distribution and sale of controlled substances, organized crime, and major criminal offenses;

• Key characteristics:

  • Ghosted, unmarked or civilian vehicles;

  • Class C or plain clothes uniforms that blend into the civilian environment;

  • Referred to “Officers” as their title;

  • Perform well thought out and planned sting operations;
