Criminal Investigations Division (CID)

• Main detective and investigative branch of the SMPD;

• Members perform in-depth and thorough investigations of incidents such as homicides, murders, domestic violence, etc. as well as being the main units in charge of setting up and maintaining a crime scene for investigations;

• Key characteristics:

  • Unmarked, slicktop vehicles that look like/mimic civilian vehicles;

  • Class C uniforms with “CID” markings or suits;

  • Have knowledge on forensics and forensics equipment;

  • Referred to as “Detective” as their title;
