Air & Coastal Operations (ACO)

• Main division that operates in the harbor and in the skies within the SMPD;

• Members of Air & Coastal Operations are skilled operators of specialized vehicles such as helicopters, boats, and trucks. ACO is used to perform search and rescue (SAR) operations, assist in pursuits, enforcing maritime and flight laws, etc.

• Key characteristics:

  • Specialized vehicles for versatile terrain;

  • Class C specialized uniforms depending on vehicle operated;

  • Referred to “Officers” as their title;
