Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.)

• Tactical unit possessing special training and superior weapons within the SMPD;

• Members of the S.W.A.T. unit operate in heavy protective gear containing a large amount of ammunition and tools for the purposes of neutralizing serious threats to public safety such as but not limited to; barricaded suspects, active armed robberies, active shooters, etc.

• Key characteristics:

  • Marked armored or unarmored Santa Monica S.W.A.T. vehicles;

  • Heavy protective gear including body armor, helmets, and protective glasses;

  • Perform precision shooting, breaches, hostage rescue, and any other situation that require overpowering target subjects;
