Canine Unit (K9)

• K9 trains and uses dogs to perform various law enforcement duties;

  • ex: Finding hidden controlled substances (drugs, guns, alcohol, etc.), foot pursuit and intervention tactics, search and rescue operations, therapeutic/reassurance duties, etc.

• Key characteristics:

  • Marked, lightbar/slicktop vehicles with distinct K9 markings;

  • Class B uniforms with “K9” markings;

  • Have knowledge on animal/canine behavioral patterns and are experienced handlers;

  • Referred to “Handler” as their title;
