Oak woodlands are an iconic landscape of California, and home of America's National Tree, the oak. Within the state, oak woodlands are found around the central valley and along the coast range, as seen on the map to the left. Characteristic of oak woodland communities are the various species of oak, where the oak stands are close to one another. These communities are diverse and productive habitats that support a variety of unique species.
