Labor Relations

This unit gave me an opportunity to use the concepts, terminology, and processes related to union activity in a mock union contract negotiation scenario. Below is a list of skills I have gained as a result of the Safety and Workers' Compensation unit. Included under this unit tab is a collection of assignments.

Skills Inventory

• Financial Analysis: Able to use Microsoft Excel to create a financial analysis that can be used in a union negotiation.
• Interests and Positions: Able to identify interests and positions of both union and management prior to negotiations.
• Case Study of Union Organizing at SGA Industries: Able to discuss factors that led to the attempt to unionize at SGA Industries and the legal anti-union measures management can take.
• Union Contract and Grievance Scenarios: Able to use a union contract to resolve grievances.
• Negotiation Simulation: Able to negotiate with a group that has different interests to find common ground and come to an agreement.
• Group Work: Able to delegate responsibilities to various group members and negotiate as a team.
