With an almost no-care attitude and a prickly demeanour, Charlie comes across as someone who has no patience or love for others. A bit of a lone-wolf, Charlie tends to stick to herself - her thoughts caught up in her cases. She has a sarcastic comment for everything, and often uses it to mask her feelings. Whiskey is her vice, she gets through numerous bottles a week. She has no patience for bullshit and is quick to anger, resulting in many violent clashes with others- her anger issues are plenty. But when it comes down to the real stuff, Charlie is loyal to a fault. Underneath her sharp attitude beats a heart that cares. The whole reason she became a P.I was to help others. She can deliver a long-list of insults to her family, but truthfully they mean everything to her. An easy way to get on her shit-list is to threaten or hurt them.

Charlotte "Charlie" Hargreeves is one of the forty-three children born on 1st October, 1989 to a mother showing no prior signs of pregnancy. She along with seven others were adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves who trained them to save the world.
Charlie was ranked at Number Eight, with the abilities to adapt to her surroundings and manipulate her body to change when required. This could vary from growing gills underwater, her eyes changing to be cat-like in the dark to see or even bending/shrinking limbs to fit into tight spaces. However Charlie's powers can be temperamental, with some adaptations taking time or not even manifesting at all, she doesn't always have control of her changes.
The Umbrella Academy
Charlie was raised alongside her siblings (Luther, Diego, Allison, Klaus, Five, Ben & Viktor) within the Umbrella Academy. Much like the rest of her powered siblings, Charlie was put through trials and tests by her father, Reginald, to help to train her to save the world. Charlie underwent numerous missions and became world-wide famous.
Charlie hated life under Reginald's roof. Initially when she was young, she was keen to prove herself to Reginald. She bared through rigorous training, including his attempts to make her fireproof which resulted in scars and her fear of fire. She adored her brothers Luther and Diego, looking up to them like older brothers (despite them all being the same age). Out of all of her siblings, she was particularly close to them- especially Diego as they both shared similar personalities. Diego was someone she trusted on rare occasions of vulnerability- something she grew to hide as she aged.
As she grew older, Charlie found herself craving normality. She hated her powers, hated her life and often took out her frustrations on the only ones she could - her siblings. Ben's death and Five's disappearance just added more fuel to her misery, as she grew further apart from her family. Charlie especially clashed with her siblings, Allison and Viktor. She envied how adored her sister Allison was by the world and the fact that Viktor could have something she couldn't - normality. She became more rebellious, sneaking out the house frequently for both freedom and to find ways to make money. Money she saved to finally get out of that house.
Charlie left when she was 18 and didn't look back. Truthfully Charlie loved her siblings, but at the time she could only associate them with all the bad memories of her past- a past she wanted to leave behind. So she cut ties, a decision that hurt her family- especially her brother Diego.
After The Academy
Charlie made the choice to study and pursue a career in law enforcement, she couldn't let go of the desire to help others. After a few stumbles, Charlie found her calling to become a Private Investigator.
During her studies and her years as a P.I, Charlie had an on-off relationship with a lawyer, named Lorrianne Matthews. She was Charlie's first love and the two had a passionate relationship. Yet Charlie's guarded nature, her drinking/angry issues and her inability to showcase her vulnerabilities to Lorrianne, always seemed to draw a wedge between them. This eventually caused Lorrianne to break up with her for good. However Lorrianne still remained friends with Charlie, unable to completely let her go due the feelings she still had for her.
Returning Home & Stopping The Apocalypse
Charlie had never thought she would return home, but the death of her father brought her back. In true Charlie fashion, she is the same as ever - still closed off to her siblings and even sometimes downright hostile. Even though deep down, she would love to have them in her life again - especially Diego, she doesn't afford herself that luxury. At least not initially.
With Five's return, the appearance of Hazel & Cha and the news of an impending apocalypse, Charlie throws herself back in with her family once more. Her sharp edges slowly become softer, and as much as she would never admit it - this is the happiest she's been in years. She even makes some progress with Diego, particularly when she votes against shutting their robot mother, Grace down.
When everything comes crashing down and she learns of Viktor's powers, Charlie tries to make the move to be a better sister to him. She immediately disagrees with Luther's decision to lock him away, accusing him of acting exactly like their father. When Viktor breaks out, she is still just as determined to help her brother. Along with her siblings, she is nearly killed by him, before Allison's bullet causes him to stop and accidentally blow up the moon. Looking to Five, Charlie takes a risk with his plan to whisk them back in time to take another go.
Dallas
Charlie describes Dallas as the worst year of her life. She arrived near the end 1962, with no sign of her siblings in sight. Uncertain if they had been scattered in time or were dead, Charlie found herself lost in an unfamiliar time. Charlie chooses to make an attempt to blend in, managing to find herself a bar-tending job. She goes with the alias "Lorrianne Matthews'', with concern over changing the timeline constantly on her mind. However despite her best efforts, Charlie doesn't stay under the radar as much as she'd like.
An incident one evening, an incident that would shake her to her core- resulted in Charlie being thrown in jail on assault and attempted murder charges. Now trapped and even more cut-off from her family, the little hope Charlie had begins to fade away.
Within prison, Charlie manages to gain herself both an ally and friend in Eliza Jasper. The two became inseparable and worked on a plan of escape. Days before Five's arrival in 1963, they make a break for freedom, this is where Eliza learns of her friend's unusual powers. Luckily, Eliza doesn't ask for an immediate explanation- instead when the two part she ensures Charlie makes a vow. Someday she will tell her everything, no bullshit. Charlie agrees as the two bid their goodbyes. Eliza heading for Mexico and Charlie heading back to Dallas- hoping to find some clues to her siblings whereabouts.
Charlie is soon reunited with Five and Diego (both surprised by the out-of-character emotional reunion she provides for a moment). She jumps in with both feet, ready to do what she can to help find her family and prevent the 1960s apocalypse. Since their time apart, Charlie shows more care for her family and tries to make amends for past mistakes. She opens up a little with Klaus, Viktor and Allison - talking about her past love, Lorrianne and even letting them gode her into dancing dorkly with them. She vows to have her brothers backs against their father, even agreeing with Diego's Team Zero remarks. She also along with Klaus, Allison and Diego tries to save Viktor from the FBI. And she, along with the rest of her family, stands up against the Commission - fighting alongside her family. Concluding with her traveling back to the alternate 2019 and baffled by seeing the face of her deceased brother, Ben.
