On February 7, 2017, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the creation of a new organization within the Church Educational System (CES) called BYU-Pathway Worldwide, with the current PathwayConnect program (formerly called Pathway) being one of its core programs. The institution will also have responsibility for all online certificate and degree programs offered by the Church Educational System (CES).
The intent of BYU Pathway Worldwide is to remove barriers to attending college and encourage prospective students to continue their education from afar at reduced tuition costs.
You can find more information about BYU-Pathway Worldwide by going to the BYU-Pathway Worldwide website or the BYU-Pathway Worldwide Newsroom.
PathwayConnect is a three-term program that facilitates students to receive higher education for a certificate or degree. Through the non-degree granting PathwayConnect program, the students are able to receive a tuition discount when applying to BYU-Idaho or Ensign College to receive their degree. The student may apply to an online program at BYU-Idaho or Ensign College without going through the PathwayConnect program, however, they will not receive the tuition discount. When the student successfully completes the PathwayConnect program they can apply to earn a certificate or degree from BYU-Idaho or Ensign College, consider a local college or university, get a new or improved job, or pursue a variety of other options.
Each course offered in the program is designed to help students learn skills and gain the confidence needed to succeed in college and life.
The Preferred Path helps to prepare you for success through academic and religious courses. This program helps build skills needed for higher education, and the workforce.
The preferred path to a degree begins with PathwayConnect and is recommended for most students. No ACT/SAT is required for admission. PathwayConnect includes foundational academic and religious courses that help students see increased success, and all courses count toward your degree.
The Advanced Path is connected to Ensign College and BYU-Idaho. This path allows for you to receive various certificates and receive a bachelor's degree. PathwayConnect does not have master’s programs at this time.
The advanced path to a degree requires a more detailed application process and is primarily for U.S. students with significant previous university and online learning experience.
The students' testimony will grow as the students enjoy the fellowship of other members of the Church and participate in courses taught within the framework of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Unlike other Church educational programs, participation in PathwayConnect is not contingent upon personal worthiness, which means an ecclesiastical interview is not necessary.
PathwayConnect helps the students build confidence in a supportive environment. The student will take control of their own learning through a process of preparation, teaching others, and internalizing their learning through reflection and application. The student can then go forward in faith, believing they are capable of achieving their goals.
PathwayConnect helps the students gain skills, learn doctrines, and strengthen values that will enable them to gain meaningful employment as well as be better parents, providers, citizens, and Church members.
The student does not pay additional costs for course materials. The PathwayConnect tuition cost covers all the online material that the students are required to have.
PathwayConnect does not provide laptops, computers, phones, tablets, access to the internet, transportation, or other outside materials for their PathwayConnect courses.
PathwayConnect advises students to use a laptop or desktop computer. Students may use mobile devices such as Chromebooks, tablets, or iPads to access your PathwayConnect courses. Most modern mobile devices should run the latest browsers, which will allow students to have access to Canvas, and the free Microsoft 365 tools.
If a student experiences trouble with submitting coursework because of device issues the student should make their instructors aware. It is up to them to work to resolve these issues.
BYU Pathway Worldwide does not provide reimbursement for outside material.
BYU-Pathway students are eligible to receive a tuition discount of 10, 25, or 50% off their tuition balance (amount based on need). After enrolling, students must complete an interactive lesson in their student portal to receive the discount.
Any student who has returned from a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints during the past 60 months is eligible for a 25% tuition discount. (This includes missionaries who did not complete their entire mission.) Returned missionaries must also be registered for courses at least three days before the start of each semester.
Students can work with an assigned mentor, who will help determine if the student is eligible for a needs-based scholarship. (This scholarship is limited to one term during the first year of enrollment.)
The price of tuition for students who start their degree through BYU-Pathway Worldwide’s preferred path (PathwayConnect) is significantly reduced — and they keep the lower cost for their entire degree program! View tuition rates.
