Byram Hills Speech and Debate is one of the most prestigious teams at Byram Hills. The Byram Hills debate team has been dominating tournaments for decades. The speech part team was founded in 2018 and immediately became one of the most celebrated teams at Byram, winning trophies almost every week.
The team competes at the regional, state and national levels. There are about 25 tournaments each year, beginning in September and finishing in April. Competitors can go to as many (or as few) competitions as they like. Any Byram Hills High School student may join the team at the beginning of the season. The tournament season begins in September and concludes in March with national championships held April - June. For more information please peruse this site.
Students compete in the following events: Lincoln Douglas, Public Forum, Extemporaneous Speaking, Informative Speaking, Impromptu Speaking, Original Oratory, Declamation, Prose Reading, Poetry Reading, Oral Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation and Duo Interpretation. There are other, less popular events that we support as well.
