Summit Days are a very important element of Diplomacy and International Communications in English. They give students in the major opportunities to come together with other Diplomacy students from schools around the country to put into practice in authentic settings skills they have learned in the classroom, such as active learning, experiencing new cultures, conversational and public speaking, and much more.
Students report that the Diplomacy Summit Days have been some of the most meaningful and memorable learning opportunities they have experienced in their school careers. Click here to read more about some of the summit days which took place in the second semester.
Diplomacy classes throughout the country have begun to form informal partnerships and organize visits to one another’s cities and schools. Says Sharon Foreman, “Summer (Faraj) and I agreed that talking about Intercultural Competence and Diversity Awareness in class is not enough. So…why not practice what we preach? We decided to plan an informal meeting between our students – mine from Meshutaf Hof Hacarmel and Summer's from Kasem Ganem in Kfar Maghar. Today the first visit took place. Summer and her students prepared an amazing day full of activities: icebreakers, different games, a tour in the village including a mosque and a church, and food! So much great Druze food!
The students opened up slowly and at the end of the day, some of them parted with hugs. It was really heartwarming to watch!” Several other schools have done this, but upon hearing the responses from the day in Kfar Maghar, many have become inspired to follow suit. We hope to see more cultural exchange in the coming years, true implementation of intercultural communication!
