A new course was introduced highlighting the current significance and future relevance of Jewish “peoplehood” together with tracing the rise, the transformation and sense of belonging to the Jewish people by connecting Israeli English teachers and students to this novel theme.
The course offered a glimpse into the surprising story of the American Jewish community. This is a story that evokes the sense of ethnicity and nationality that binds Jews around the globe to one another. Despite the different daily realities, differences in the view to religious and cultural practices, the geographic distance, and even political divides, solidarity was the key notion in the planning of this online course.
The content of the program was developed through CET (Matach) in the form of a 30-hour course for teachers with an accredited "gmul". The overall feedback was extremely positive. As one teacher wrote, “I appreciated the opportunity to actually learn new information that could ultimately be applied to my classroom”.
Teachers who took the course will present the idea to their students this coming year as a theme for the oral Bagrut project in the 4-5 point classes. These teachers will implement the knowledge they gained during the training course and will encourage their students to explore the Jewish North American world.
