About us
The 4-H Dog Project is a program for young people who are interested in working with dogs. The project offers a wide range of activities and learning opportunities that are designed to teach participants about dog care, training, and behavior. Participants learn about dog health and nutrition, grooming and hygiene, obedience training, agility, and various dog sports. They also develop important life skills, such as leadership, responsibility, and teamwork, as they work with their dogs to achieve specific goals. The project ends the year with a Canine Good Citizen test where participants can showcase their skills and knowledge. Overall, the 4-H Dog Project is a great way for young people to learn about dogs and develop important life skills in a fun and engaging way.
"In the BVM dog project, we focus on obedience, agility and education in how to care for and bond with our dogs. We also plan to have some fun with games, crafts, social events, and community service. Our goal is for members to "learn by doing" and grow the bond they have with their dog" (Danielle Jarczyk).
Canine Good Citizen test (CGC)
The Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test is a certification program that evaluates whether a dog has good manners and basic obedience skills. The test measures a dog's ability to follow commands, interact with people and other dogs, and respond appropriately to various situations. The test consists of ten tasks, including greeting a friendly stranger, sitting politely for petting, walking on a loose leash, and staying in place. The CGC test is a great way to assess a dog's behavior and determine if they are suitable for activities such as therapy work or participation in dog sports.
