Finding a professional mentor provides benefits, such as giving you access to someone you can rely on for advice as well as someone you can collaborate with to create ideas or approaches. You have access to knowledge and abilities you would not otherwise have. They might quicken your growth and assist you in establishing both short- and long-term objectives. A skilled mentor can support your responsibility on both a personal and professional level. You may learn and hone leadership skills like self-awareness, verbal communication, problem-solving, and adaptability with their assistance. While I gather data for my thesis, I haven't had many positive role models in my life, either as a child or as an adult.
I wanted to learn from my mentor, therefore I choose Thomas Durfee, Director of Clinical and Training. I'm driven to continue developing as a leader in the future. Over the course of his professional career, he has also seen and seen a great deal, giving him the ability to offer an informed viewpoint. He is also dependable, kind, and a superb trainer and counselor, which are additional qualities I have seen.
When a situation or conversation gets hot, Tom may be stern and inflexible. He isn't furious or hostile, though; instead, he is a passionate supporter of the conclusion of our instruction, in which he firmly believes. He never stops inspiring and urging us to be the greatest versions of ourselves, and because to his outstanding leadership abilities, he supports our attempts to develop in our professions. Many individuals in the community, including those I work with and am responsible for helping, have looked up to him as a great role model.
We spoke about several leadership philosophies as well as our personal leadership philosophies. We both came to the conclusion that we both had a diversity of skills and traits as leaders rather than one specific approach. We consider ourselves to be servant leaders who demonstrate a range of leadership styles, which become evident and apparent depending on the circumstance and the persons involved. The definition of servant leadership is the practice of attempting to engage people in decision-making, being firmly founded on moral and kind behavior, and promoting employee development while enriching corporate life (Spears 2022). You prioritize the needs of others, particularly those of your team members, as a servant leader. You respect other people's viewpoints, help them achieve their professional and personal objectives, involve them in decision-making when it makes sense, and promote a feeling of community among your team members. Participation among team members rises as a result, and connections with other stakeholders are strengthened along with trust. It can also increase creativity.
Because Tom truly believes that the development and happiness of others, as well as the communities to which she belongs, are of the highest significance, he is appreciated by others. I am a servant leader who delegated authority, prioritized the needs of others before my own, and assisted others in developing and reaching their full potential.
The values of direct involvement, development promotion, active listening, humility, and empathy serve as the foundation for a servant-work. leader's (Western Governors University, 2020). One of these traits that I most strongly exhibit is direct involvement with people, in my opinion. Those in positions of authority who see themselves as serving their followers do not provide directives from their offices. They are working along with the people that work for them. They are liable for certain tasks and duties as team members. They typically hand off the administration of a project to an employee, who then directs their participation in the job. Direct involvement in the organization's operations is necessary for our initiative to be completed successfully.
By consistently keeping my moral standards, which include honesty and integrity, I earn and keep the trust of others. I really think that people should reciprocate your candor and openness if you treat them similarly. I firmly think that I have no right to demand or expect people to behave honestly and honorably if I am incapable of doing so myself. Given the foregoing, it should be emphasized that I have no issue addressing individual concerns or taking on the challenges at hand in a fast and efficient manner. I think that putting this strategy into action will make it possible to start the settlement process before significant problems arise. I have never, to my knowledge, strayed from this idea.
Tom is one of the most effective leaders I have seen, according to my experience, since he really appreciates giving others control. He provides individuals greater autonomy by emphasizing their positive traits. He would tell you that by concentrating on your strengths, you will develop them further and promote advancement in that specific profession. Helping someone gain more strength causes endorphins to be generated in their brain, which inspires them to work more. These people tend to concentrate on their flaws and be willing to improve in those areas because they have already succeeded in other elements of themselves. Tom excels at bringing together people whose talents complement one another. He thinks that by doing this, the team will be able to create the best job possible and that it will also strengthen the bonds between the leadership and worker teams.
I have great aspirations that as my professional career develops, I will be able to become the sort of leader Tom is and that other people would appreciate him the way I do. I know that I am sympathetic and reliable, exactly like I see her to be. Because to Tom's guidance, my career inside my current organization has improved and expanded. I started off in an entry-level position as an employee and eventually worked my way up to manager. Tom has continuously pushed me to grow into the best successful version of myself, both professionally and personally, during his time at the company. Our workplace has changed into one that our workers respect and adore over the period that I and the other members of my team have worked under his direction. He is looked up to by other healthcare executives who like his leadership style and the manner he addresses the subject.
