Japanese Literature and Bungou Stray Dogs
Since 2018, I've held an annual survey to see if Bungou Stray Dogs fans are also fans of Japanese literature and what authors and books they enjoy. Here are the results of the past two years to compare, and you can find the results of every year's survey on Tumblr here:

All my favs are the ones who aren't from Japan💀
As a huge bsd fan, I admire how commited you are to the blog. Have a good day, as well as a happy new year!!!!! I´ve been filling out your annual surveys since 2020, and I´m glad that you still carry them every year. Thanks!!
BSD Bibliophile is generally such a cool and useful resource, I’ve used it both for fun as well as for school work (I didn’t have my physical copy of Akutagawa’s works with me and needed to cite “Spinning Gears”/“Cogwheels”). Thank y’all for everything you do!
BSD-Bibliophile, the website and the Tumblr posts have been invaluable to me in my literary journey. I thank you so much for your service to the community, I can't express how happy I am that the lesser known or completely unknown authors are getting more western attention. Thank you so much!!
comments on my answers: I used to own more books but when I emigrated I could bring only one. The book I brought here from Russia is Dazai’s stories collection. Since many of the books are available in Japanese for free, I also read them on aozora app.
Finding Japanese literature from these authors is actually pretty difficult in Scotland. Also, Dazai and Nakahara are such fangirl answers, but I actually adore both of their works
First of all, sorry for my horrendous English 💀 I love this page so much! I was absolutely lost as to where to read the translations of the LN, wan! And others, it had been so helpful for me when it comes to my time enjoying BSD. Also, I enjoyed a lot that one section of like fun facts of the real authors and I was so happy when I found the bunch of English translation of the real authors, it really made my day.Now when I want to read a book of the real authors, or read something BSD related I know where ti search for first! I absolutely adored all the work you put into this (or the team (?) I don't know how mane people is running the page:(), thank you for all of it, keep going! 💗
for the images included on posts; the only thing i don't like about them is that they're a bit too tall (making the post look too long as well). i think images would still be nice if they were longer width than height! also, thank you for all of the work you do running bsd bibliophile! you've put together such an amazing and invaluable resource for bsd fans and non-fans alike.
Great work!
Have a nice day!!
Hello! - princy :3
Honestly, I would read stuff by the authors but I just don't have that kind of money
hope you are having a great day!
I absolutely love BSD it made me get into japness literature, as well did Bungo To Alchemist. ALSO BSD LIGHT NOVEL ON TOP!!
I appreciate the work you do! It has really expanded my taste in literature, and for that I am very grateful <3
I appreciate your work🥰😘❤
I believe that having more of a separation from the BSD characters and the real life authors in the bibliophile’s posts would be highly appreciated from a lot of other people; and not just myself
I bought Summer of the Ubume by Kyougoku Natsuhiko when it still was in print in English. I took it with me when rereading and lost my copy. I’m kicking myself years later for not buying a used copy for $50. Earlier this year I was able to borrow a copy from a library and took a picture of every page so I can keep it with me that way. I was delighted to find a scan PDF of the novel when your tumblr linked stories to read for Halloween. Thank you for sharing and thank you whomever made that scan. The BSD Gaiden novel is my favorite thing from BSD and I’m deeply thankful to the person who shared their amazing fan translation. It’s led me to buying all of the English translations of Ayatsuji’s works, plus the two volumes of the manga. I’m a newer follower of your tumblr, but have enjoyed reading each new quote and seeing ones I’ve recognized. Thank you for your work, it’ll definitely be inspiration when I want to read more Japanese literature.
I enjoy the BSD-Bibliophile page on tumblr! I like reading parts (?) of the authors' works and i've become more interested in their works. Thanks for all that you do!! :D
I have the page bookmarked in my browser so that I can check it out from time to time. Also I love Chuuya
I honestly love this website like literally. This bibliophile has helped me Soo much like finding the authors I want to read and learning more about the authors featured. Honestly, words can't describe how grateful I am that this site being created to help accessing literature more easier
I just want you to know that i adore all the effort that goes into this page and that its (In my opinion) a staple of the fandom
I look forward to the survey every year to see how far I’ve come in interacting with Japanese literature. Thanks for running the blog and library, it’s an amazing resource. Best, Comical tuber
I love BSD bibliophile so damn much, whatever BSD related author work and BSD manga (both wan and anthologies) weren't possible for me to find this easily. This website is the work of art. My favourite place
I love BSD-Bibliophile Online Library! Thank you for managing it!
I love the 'recently published' section!
I love your blog and what you do for the fandom! It really scratches the itch which is my obsession with BSD and classic/20th C literature <3
I love your site so much, it's made it so easy to get more info about Japanese authors and figure out what else I want to read. Thank you so much!
i love your work!!
I personally believe that using advertisement through mangas and animes specially bsd connects me to the world of books one more time Also I’m grateful for free online websites for putting pdfs of books that I can’t easily have access in my country
I really appreciate all the information you have online here. I have learned a lot and I admire you and your passion. This might sound weird but I truly hope I can collect and read Japanese Literature and organise information as you do when I am older.
I really like your blog, keep it up :3
I really want to read Q's Dogra Magra but I think it's only been translated completely in french so far. Thank you so much for your database! It makes it so much easier to access learning.
I think it's so cool that you're doing these surveys! I think this bibliophile project is just awesome in general tho :) (also dang its hard to choose a fave char) lots of <3 <3 <3
I want to read many more books of the real authors so i cannot yet judge who my favorite will be. Dazai's works are the easiest to get access to in my country and I got Chuuya's poems as a gift so I am still hunting for more :)
I want to read some of their books but i'm to scared of telling my mom this fact
┻━┻︵ヽ(`Д´)ノ︵ ┻━┻
I wasn't sure if that question about reading Japanese lit was about reading it in Japanese or not
I will try to get more into this Library ! It's really good and good job for the the tumblr blog, i love it !
I would like if the quotes didn't repeat a lot– Like finding more than 4 posts of the same quote is weird to me at least... instead of doing the same authors in repetition, do more characters that have been published a few times in the blog 🙌🏻
I’m a BSD anime fan who would like to try some of the works by the authors the characters are based on but hasn’t gotten around to figuring out a good entry point for people who don’t usually read literature
I'm new to the fandom, but I'm looking forward to check out any translation that are available (I plan to read at least the work the ability is referring to for a start)
I'm so thankful for your website making Japanese literature available, as I live in a somewhat rural area. Keep up the good work!
I'm very grateful for the resources that had been accumulated by bsd bibliophile, really, I've only been able to nurture my interest in Japanese literature and grow to be passionate about it because I had such easy access to the translated works so thanks a lot for the work you do!
I've just decided to make use of the online library and I'm very excited! I'll check of Oda and Nikolai first because they are most interesting to me :)
i've remembered about the bibliophile purely by chance. in a span of a single night, i've read another media that draws heavy inspiration from japanese literature – ""hashihime of the old book town"". i say ""finished"", yet i'm only done with a single route of this novel. i plan on seeing it through the end. i am enamoured by this script. it's as If i've found true literature again. i truly do not know why im saying this. forgive me If my words are unclear in my ramblings. i am simply here to pick up some kyusaku. maybe then i will be able to fully unravel the fabric of this novel, thread by thread.
I've used this blog to help open myself up to more Japanese literature for years now, ever since I first got into bad, and I can't thank you enough for running this!
Just followed a little while ago so my answers probably aren't that helpful, sorry! I'm looking forward to going through your blog though! Hope you have a nice day/night! :)
Just started following the blog recently tbh, but I’m excited to check out the online library!
Keep up the good work!! :)
Keep up with the good work! I'm always happy to see your content
Love your blog and everything you do!!!
My 1st fav character is Atsushi, but Chuuya's also on top :))
My book count is prolly squewed as I had to go off of memory (since I left many behind in the US at my parents house). I counted Japanese fiction from non BSD authors but not manga and light novels. Also I used to watch & read BSD but no longer do so, but still enjoy Japanese literature.
sorry i took this for fun and wanna read a lot of multiple authors works but uh i havent come around to it yet (also money 😭)
Thank you :)
Thank you <3
Thank you for all the posts you have posted! I can find it hard at times to have the motivation to sit down and READ lol but you inspire me to read more with all the quotes you have shared with us on your blog. <3 Take care!
Thank you for all you do
Thank you for all you do <3
thank you for creating and running this beautiful blog anne♡✨.
Thank you for creating this amazing website ! :D through this website i can learn more about the authors and im happy because of it thank you once again !! <3
thank you for everything you do!
Thank you for letting me know of the library! I've been wanting to read the authors' works but couldn't find them along with money issues
Thank you for providing information that I could not find in anywhere else on the internet in English!
Thank you for the hardwork!! <3
thank you for you blog! literally my go to anytime i need any bsd related! it is literally invaluable and im so so grateful to you!
thank you for your hard work <3 i'm currently studying japanese, because i really want to read japanese literature in its original language and translate it, but until then i will continue relying on english translations - most of which i was only able to find on your site. again, i thank you and the translators from the bottom of my heart for providing us with such amazing resources and translations for free <3
Thank you for your hard work and efforts to share and compile the legally available works of the BSD authors! Your site has allowed me to appreciate BSD as well as Japanese literature itself a lot more.
Thank you for your hard work o7
Thank you for your hard work! Have a nice day:)
Thank you for your hard work! Was it not BSD-Bibliophile I'd be completely lost with researching irl authors and their art of writing. You helped me lots of times.
thank you for your hardwork! i appreciate what you do <3
Thank you for your work and your posts! :D
Thank you for your work at BSD-Bibliophile. For the research that I am conducting and for leisure purposes, the curated library is immensely helpful. I am happy to see that interest has grown in Japanese literature alongside the depth of available resources.
Thank you for your work! It’s always a bright spot in my day to see these quotes :)
Thank you for your work! Your blog has been a great source of information for me for a few years now. Sending love and hugs 🌸
Thank you for your work!!
Thank you so much for all you've done for the community!!!
Thank you!
Thanks :D
Thanks for all the work you do
Thanks for all your work! It's because of you guys that I've been able to read as much as I have (and will continue to do)!!!
Thanks for this resource, it's helpful as a Universal Literature student
the online library has really helped in finding japanese literature
The online library helped me so much in getting to know more about japanese literature thanks a lot for you ♥️
The website has been of great help to find my way around the literature! Truly a godsend! Keep up the great work
The world of literature is a big one & some of it aren't really that accessible. It's great that there are more people translating these previously untranslated works so we can see just how unique each author's style is
There were questions asking for "favorite Japanese BSD author", but those questions were very misleading. First of all, the characters in BSD aren't authors; they don't do or haven't done writing for living or anything along the lines. Secondly, said questions made it sound more like you were asking for whether I like Asagiri, Harukawa, Kanai, Hoshikawa or some other creators who are credited as authors of BSD. They are BSD authors, not the characters like you made it sound like in your questions. If you are asking about real-life authors who happen to have characters based on them in BSD, leave out BSD from the questions, or specify them with something like "Which Japanese author do you like the most, who has a character based on them in BSD?". Last I would like to suggest adding option to the question regarding BSD media, where people who are ex-BSD fans could specify that they've been previously fans, but don't consume or follow the series anymore. The option could be literally just "Previously have been BSD fan, but don't consume any of the official content anymore". I'm pretty sure there are plenty of people like me who have enjoyed BSD in the past, but now just enjoy Japanese literature alone or through some other medias that have nothing to do with BSD. Thanks for the annual survey as always. It's been interesting to see how much the fandom reads and who are the authors who people read in the first place. I wish more people would pay attention to some less popular authors, as there are plenty of hidden gems and your favorite author doesn't have to be the same as your favorite BSD character.
there's a redditor in r/templeofes who's working on translating dogra magra and they're working very hard :D
This blog is a national treasure, thank you all <3
This initiative is so beautiful, thank you for all the hard work.
This website is amazing!!!!!! It’s hard to find Japanese classics in America but this list has them all ❤️
Tumblr doesn't show me many of your posts, so I will try to interact more to see them ^.^
Very cool survey! Thanks
Well have have read many of Fyodor dostoevsky books but not any Japanese novels or poems
When I first got into bsd your online library was an invaluable resource and the only reason I have read works by bsd Japanese authors. I use it less now because my hyperfixation has waned but I still really appreciate all that you do and the resources made available to fans. Thank you!
will check the BDS-Bibliophile website <3 hope u have a nice day
yooo!! thanks for this super awesome survey!! happy easter <33 -a migrating tumblrer
You’re one of the best resources I have for BSD and JP literature. I’m eternally grateful for all the work you do
:)
:p
always looking forward to ur survey :)) i love data and it motivates me to read more japanese authors
Another year, another survey! Thank you so much for all the information you provide, it's really some great work you're doing! It's been a while since I had the time to just sit down and read for a while, but I did recently buy The Setting Sun and I read Kokoro this year, which was such a masterpiece I loved it! Again many thanks and love <3
As always, thank you for your lovely work Anne <33
been a fan of this website since i got into bsd (2020) you’re doing god’s work fr!!
BYE BYE BESTIES FROM ME IN THE WESTIES
compiling all these resources is a really awesome endeavor, thanks for all that you do :)
cool asf
Cool survey ^_^
even though i haven't used the library yet, i really appreciate you keeping it up and maintaining it as a resource! thank you!
freaky kunikida 😛😛😛
haiiii
Hey hope everything is going well for you I love seeing your posts and analyses you’ve really done a lot for bsd and Japanese literature fans thanks for everything <33
heyo!! i appreciate all the work you guys do, and while i've had this tab open on my phone for a while, i've not used the website that much. i plan to in the future!!
I cannot choose between Dazai, Ranpo, and Chuuya as favorite characters.
I don't always have time to read or use the library, but I'm very happy it exists and I want to find the time to use it and read more!! You are one of my favorite blogs on tumblr and have done wonderful things for both the BSD and literature community.
i dotn know why i m filling this out
I have not read a lot of Japanese literature but I intend on reading at least 1 work from each author in BSD as a goal
I have not read much, as I would rather read physical copies. Many of the authors' works cannot be found in my country, so I would wait for a bit to read, or just give in and read online translated version. At the moment I can find Ayatsuji, Tsujimura, Natsume Soseki, Dazai Osamu, Yokomizo Seishi...I intend to read more mysteries, so I would focuse on Yokomizo Seishi's at the moment.
I haven't had the time to check out your tumblr, but I have used your website a bunch! I really appreciate the effort you put into all of it, and it made reading Bungou (and other Japanese authors) a lot more accessible and understandable. Without reading some of your descriptions on the authors, I most definitely wouldn't have even picked up their books in the first place. So, thank you very much!
I honestly don’t have one single favorite bsd character, but Atsushi is definitely in my top few, I love his character and his development, and someone very very dear to me is a lot like him <3 ALSO READ STORMBRINGER 💥
I hope you have a great day ahead! This was a lovely survey.
i love dazai
I love entering Tumblr and seeing your posts on my tl, specially if they're from my favorite authors/characters ❤️ I feel like they're always there for me in a way thanks to your posts. I also appreciate the resources, even if I usually read physical books.
I love the BSD-Bibliophile site, it's so helpful when my BSD phase strikes again.
I love the online library even though I haven't used it in awhile. It's a great resource to direct new jp lit readers to
I love the tumble quotes as it inspires my own writing. Thank you and keep it up! x
I love the work that your community/company is putting in. Good luck on everything.
I love this website, thanks for this!
I love your blog! Love from Spain!
I love your online library, and I love how passionate you are about it. If there's any way that we can help add to your collection or just help in general, please let me know!
I loved Bungou Stray Dogs the moment I watched the Anime and started reading the Manga. With this Blog, it was the same: The moment I found it, I loved it! There are so many books written by authors from BSD, that I can't get a hand on in Germany, so that Posts here are my only source. I hope it makes sense... my active english isn't good. Thank you very much for the hard work over all these years!
I originally accessed this website only to search for digital copies of Dazai Osamu's works, but I ended up developing a genuine obsession with classic Japanese literature and reading dozens of books, short stories, and essays from various authors and of different genres. Thank you so much for your hard work!
I prefer reading the Slavic authors at the moment so I haven't read much by the Japanese authors. (I am also learning Russian personally so this is my preference.)
"I really enjoy your blog! It is very fun, informative, and helpful <3
I haven't read much of the authors featured in BSD but I plan to change that next year! Your blog will be very helpful then! Thank you for all your work!"
I really love how you have made all the translated books available online. It has helped me expand my choice of literature actually. Thank you so much for your hard work! This is a place return to every once in a while because it brings me so much joy!
I really love the BSD Bibliophile Online Library. It comes in handy when I want to read books or search for more information on the authors. Bless you for such a wonderful resource!
I started learning Japanese for a light novel series that I was following (not BSD), but BSD is directly responsible for my seeking out more general Japanese literature, rather than just light novels or anime. Would not have read half of that stuff otherwise, so I am quite happy I picked up the series.
I think BSD-bibliophile is an awesome website! Thank you:)
I use the BSD-Bibliophile often! Thank you for making this website.
I want to start reading
I wish I had more time to explore the real works of the authors
I'm glad that such a page exists. I find it important and useful. Just congratulations to the ones (or one) who came up with the idea and followed through with it!
In the future I’d recommend either including modern Japanese authors (Murakami etc) in the survey, or specifying that the focus is classic (largely 20th/early 21st century) authors. But regardless I love what y'all do and the resources you provide!
in truth i haven’t used the site as i’ve wished due to time but i always have this site in mind when i’m looking for japanese authors to read :) i wholeheartedly love this site and have used it to read shorter parts of writings i can read… thank you for all you do! i can’t wait to open up the treasure trove that is this website and dive deep into japanese authors
Is there a list for BSD writers’ literary significance + how they influenced each other in chronological order? I’m relatively new to JP lit and I’d love to learn more
I've already asked for this correction last year, but I will say it again; please change the wording for "Who is your favorite BSD Japanese author" and "What is your favorite literary work by a Japanese BSD author" questions. The authors don't have anything to do with BSD, and now the questions make it sound like you're asking if people like Asagiri or someone else who has worked on BSD, as THEY are the authors of BSD. Not Dazai and others. Please change the wording to "Japanese authors who appear as characters in BSD" or something like that, and don't call them BSD authors. They aren't such. Also, I would like to point out that you've got Hirotsu's name order wrong in all questions. It's Hirotsu Ryuurou (JP order like for others), not Ryuurou Hirotsu (which is the Western name order). Thank you for the survey as always.
I've been meaning to start reading the works on the Online Library, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I've used your list once!! I haven't had time to read many new things with how busy I've been, but there's a few I've been meaning to get around to for a while.
Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the work you do :) it made Japanese lit way more accessible when I started getting into it
Just wanted to say thank you for all you do!
Just wanted to say thanks for all the work you've put into the blog! It's how I ended up reading Nakahara's poems :)
Keep up the great work!
Love the analyses page! please add more and make it easier to find on the page
Love this blog!!!
love ur website
Love your work 💜
Maybe you should also do a survey to figure out what other Japanese authors are popular. I read mainly translated Japanese, and I'm curious to see just how popular authors like Kawabata, Mishima and Shiga are. Loved this survey btw, can't wait to see the results <3
my interest in Japanese literature was cultivated through the comprehensive list and resources available in bsd bibliophile site even though I started watching bsd much before I found the site for which I'll always be grateful because a lot of my favourite works are from Japanese literature. so thank you!!!
N/A - have a lovely day! :)
One of the Agatha Christie quotes was censored (specifically, the Ten Little Indians poem). I don't think that serves any pedagogical purpose, and it erases the harmful aspects of that story that are worth discussing and acknowledging. Similar to censoring mentions of women in Dazai quotes, it only serves to gloss over and obscure relevant details in the authors' legacies and meaningful context from their works.
"One of the best curated pages. Thanks to you i’ve been able to delve further into the magical world of BSD and some of the greatest authors in literature.
Thank you. You’re a blessing to the BSD community.
Love from Vietnam."
"Please help the Brazilian Portuguese speakers to make a way of doing some kind of the same thing (a place with translations)
It would be great lots of languages on the library"
scurrying here to read tanizaki's works because the games i like reference them is the most brainrot thing i did
stay hydrated!
thank you
Thank you
thank you for all your hard work in organising the online library ♥️
Thank you for all your hard work with the website and the gorgeous posts. I have read many works after seeing them featured on your blog first
Thank you for all your work!
"Thank you for doing these every year, it is always interesting to see the results! If it's okay, I'd like to recommend two books from Japanese authors (altough they aren't related to bsd). First: The Tatami Galaxy by Tomihiko Morimi. It's a funny and surprisingly deep book with a great time loop (and there's an anime based on it that's just as great!) Second: The Aosawa Murders by Riku Onda, a gripping mystery that I couldn't put out of my hands.
Have a great year reading, everyone!"
Thank you for everything! I've learned and read a lot about Japanese authors, and even Western ones.
"Thank you for making people more familiar with Japanese literature! Good luck.
Thank you for running this blog! I'm currently working on my masters degree and the blog is going to be a valuable resource for me in the coming months.
Thank you for the google site and everything you've done for the community all these years :-) !!!
Thank you for the survey
Thank you for the survey! : ) I really want to read more books by Japanese authors but there aren't many translations of the ones i want in stores.
Thank you for the work you do!
Thank you for your blog and the website! It really helped me, because it can be hard to find even an electronic version of the book
"Thank you for your continued maintenance and work on the website - I'm incredibly grateful for all of the PDFs, lists, and information on such a broad array of authors. In time, I plan to read every work on the list.
A question - outside of the authors included in the bibliography, who else do you enjoy reading? I am fond of Kenzaburo Oe, Haruki Murakami, Keigo Higashino, Karen Horney, Irvin Yalom, Nietzsche, and Carl Jung (amongst a few others here and there)"
Thank you for your contribution to the BSD fandom!
thank you for your hard work in promoting and providing Japanese books
Thank you for your hard work!
thank you for your hard work! your site has helped me both in terms of enjoyment and providing useful resources for writing my papers and understanding literature better.
Thank you for your hard work!!
Thank you for your hard work, BSD-Bibliophile Online Library is a huge source of information for the community
Thank you for your website and hard work. I'm genuinely grateful.
Thank you for your work!
Thank you so much for making your site. It's one of the main ways I get literature, and it's really helpful because I'm a kid without a steady stream of income aside from an $8 a week allowance, which is not enough to get books at the speed I read them and my family does not go to the library often enough nor does my library have enough to suit my interests. Your online library is truly incredible and I could not be more grateful that you're kind enough to put it out for the world.
Thank you so much for running BSD-Bibliophile! It's such a lovely account, I love seeing the quotes, and also introduced me to new works too — for example, a quote from Dazai Osamu's 'The Villon's Wife' made me realize I hadn't read his whole library yet. 'm inspired by the quotes I read, and it always makes me want to read new stories too! So truly, thank you so so much for running this account.^^
thank you so much for your amazing work!!!!
Thank you!
Thanks for all the work you do!
Thanks for all you do! This is a great resource and an incredibly helpful one!!
thanks for everything, you made it easier for me to read and access Japanese literature
Thanks for your work!!!!:)
The Bibliophile has helped so much thank you!!!! :DDDDD
The website had been very useful, I'm enjoying myself with it a lot :)
The work you do (translating and compiling the works) has given me so much joy when I was obsessing about BSD and looking to read works from the original authors!! The quality of the translations seems pretty great (I'm not fluent in Japanese to know for sure but I've certainly read worse translations) and without BSD Bibliophile, I wouldn't have found a *lot* of works I love dearly. Thanks for putting this together! It's made an impact in my life and brought me closer to works I wouldn't have gotten to know otherwise :)
This survey is really including and cool! Props to the creator
This was fun to take
ur blog is such a wonderful insight into japanese literature through the lens of bsd ^^ i’d like to get more into actually reading the original works esp next year and ur blog is such a great lil sneak peak into them? lovely wotk keep it up (also hopefully gonna start w hell screen cus i read a bit 👍 but idk i like how bsd has such a wide range of authors id never heard of before ^^ literature is such a wide spectrum love it)
Ur posts put a smile on my face! I love ur dedication to the fandom and japanese literature 🫡🫡 you must have been posting daily for more than 5 years? Impressive 😊😌😌
w series literally
What about Fyodor Dostoevsy? (Crime and Punishment is a rather nice book)
Your posts made me buy and read the books. Thank you! 🖤
your website is very nice! it's where i found the english translations for some of the light novels. ive only read 3 so far but hope to read more in the future. thank you for your service 🙇♂️
your work is so vast and underappreciated! i really need to take more time to look through your library. thank you for all the work you've put into it!
С:
"こんにちは、翻訳の努力を本当に感謝しています。あなたにはとても感謝しています。正直なところ、お気に入りを選ぶのは難しかったですが、中也の詩が好きなので、結局太宰をクリックしました。とにかく、本当にありがとうございます。良い一日をお過ごしください!"
今年、お疲れ様でした!Thank you for your work. Having access to more of the authors I was curious about led to me conducting a successful research project on Japanese literary fiction last year. This year, I've moved abroad to Japan to learn Japanese at university. I hope that I can contribute to the effort to kindle others' inspiration through translation and storytelling. Please have a happy new year!

Apologies i feel like i will have bias if i picked nakahara chuuya as my favorite author but i do enjoy Dazai Osamu's work.
As always, thank you for making these wonderful works accessible for everyone! I've learned so much about Japanese literature and had so much fun reading during these past 3 years. I've also been able to purchase some physical copies of my favorite works thanks to your organized lists, so thank you so much for your hard work!! ^^
Bless you
Both your website and your tumblr has helped me a lot to enjoy and discover bungo stray dogs and japanese literature. I really the quotes you post on tumblr. I find joy in reading them.
BSD Bibliophile seems like a wonderful reserve of resources, and I'm hoping to use it for future character analyses!
bsd-bibliophile provided amazing support when i was starting out with both japanese literature and BSD itself. I'm very grateful for the service provided
bye! (sorry if my answers had been confusing)
Couldn't choose a favourite author, because I've only read one of them
Feel free to leave a message or comment here if desired:
have a good day! :D
Hello
"Hey, thank you so much for your hard work in creating this blog! Thanks to you I learned a lot about Japanese literature and fell in love with classical literature. I have been following your blog for several years and I am happy to see its development. Thanks again and greetings from Poland!
PS. sorry in advance for my bad english"

"I am an English major, but I also study Japanese literature at Creighton University. I only found out about BSD recently. While working on my project for this year, I came across your quotes on tumblr.
I really love your blog, and I’ve fallen in love with the personas in BSD! I’m really glad to see a place where literature fans can find content, and thank you for spreading Japanese literature outside of Japan! "
I am looking forward to the results! Thank you for your work! :D
I appreciate that I find out about more books through the online library, so thank you
I came across your blog (and your website) awhile back and finally read BSD this year and now im utterly obsessed with both BSD and Japanese literature. thank you for introducing me to so many of my now favorite books <3
"i do not use tumblr very often but when i do, i really makes me happy to see your blog. Thank you (or you guys) for great work!!!
"
I genuinely appreciate all the effort you have put into BSD-Bibliophile. I actually used your library last year for a college research paper on Dazai and it contained everything supplementary I needed! (I got 100% hehe.) I look forward to more updates!!
I greatly appreciate how accessible BSD Bibliophile has made Japanese works. I am currently working on getting El Infierno de las Chicas de Yumeno Kyūsaku now that I've read as many of his English translated works as I was able to access.
I have always loved classic literature growing up. For a time tho I lost interest yet after finding BSD it reopened that door and reignited my love for classics as well as introduced me to new authors and works from all over the world.
I have never used the Online Library often because I might be intellectually challenged and couldn't use the site very well. But I guess it's just me because I've seen people use it with no problem. I really appreciate the effort you/you all put on this, and I am very thankful for that.
I highly appreciate your efforts in gathering those literature works as they are hard to find
I honestly just started going through you page, but I'm very greatful for the resources you have. About to use them a lot.
I just registered on the site two days ago and found out about your library. Thank you very much for it! I will read with great pleasure. Wishing you lots of success and loving followers!
I just want to say that all the research you do is so inspiring and helpful to others who are interested in this topic. You really are an inspiration and have helped me a lot with my own research. Thank you for all you do ^^
I just want to say that I've been reading Japanese literature before I found out about Bungou Stray Dogs. I don't own many books since I read at a public library. The copies I do own are the original Japanese versions.
I love this blog so much! Found it almost two years ago and I'll be forever grateful for it. Thank you for your work! <3
I love this page keep up with good work, you amaze me💚
I mostly read translations to spanish, I only read in english what I can't find in my native language
I plan on reading so much more, but for now, I must thank you all for helping make such a website where everything can be accessed!
I put that I only own 2 books. No Longer Human in both English and Japanese. I tend to borrow Japanese lit books from the library.
I quite enjoy reading through the stuff on the website and blog, as its well done and you can tell a lot of time and research has gone in to it. Also because of Bungo Stray Dogs, I now want to read the works published by authors that I other wise would have never heard of! :D
I read most japanese literature thanks to you
I really enjoy using the BSD-Bibliophile Library and found many great books through that.
I recently came back to Tumblr after being away for several years and was reminded that your blog is one of my favourites. Happy to see that you are still around (with many features I didn't even know about before such as the online library), keep up the good work!!
I recently found out about your online library so I have downloaded a few more books from there by Japanese authors such as 'I Am a Cat' and 'The Early Cases of Kogoro Akechi'; the latter which I am really looking forward to reading (one of my favourite characters namesake from another franchise comes from Kogoro Akechi and im a sucker for mystery books) I am also looking forward to reading 'The Honjin Murders' of which I had to dig deep through the internet to find one of Yokomizo's works. I plan to hopefully buy his books physically online by the end of the year. Also I applaud you for making literature more accessible for everyone, for the only reason why the only Japanese writer I've read so far was Ranpo is because I found an English translation of a collection of his stories in Kinokuniya and even though it was out of my price range, I bought it anyway and even worse, the specific store which I bought it from closed down a few months later, thus forcing people to travel quite far to obtain Japanese literature. Thank you! (:
I rlly appreciate this profile!! I love finding new stuff to read from here
I think your blog is lovely! Thank you for sharing with all of us. It always makes my day to see one of your posts or find something I'd been searching for through you. :)
I want to leave a message/comment, but I don't know what words to choose other than thankful of being a part of the BSD fandom and that I've never been the same person ever since I watched the anime like: I love reading books than before, and I learned a lot of things if I do say so myself. That's it I guess 😅 Hope y'all have a good day btw 😁❤️
I would like to note that I have not finished the books.
I would love to use your Library more, but usually during the academic year it's hard to find time for reading for my own pleasure (immersing in Japanese literature is part of that for me). During vacations I'm a more frequent visitor of your priceless website and I cannot be more thankful for it. Wishing the staff behind the site the best of luck, always!
I'm not very good in English and I prefer to read in french or arabic but I really enjoy your posts in Twitter, Excellent work
I'm planning to eventually read some of the works that the authors have written. I love to read new things and they seem interesting.
I'm so thrilled knowing there's independent translator for bsd page! I wanna know more about them
I'm still a student so I have a set list of books to read which don't give me time to enjoy Japanese literature as much as I'd like to (+ I've only started reading BSD this summer, and it really heightened my interest for Japanese authors), but your blog and quotes really help in keeping me curious, so thank you!
I'm still so thankful for all this, here's to another year!
I've learnt a lot of things about Japanese authors and BSD on this page and I am very grateful to its creators. I am really interested in Japanese literature, I am currently studying Japanese in order to study Japanese literature, and the information you've provided has helped me feel motivated to learn and find even more than I discovered about this authors on your pages all this years. Here i found some facts I had never heard of before anyhwere else. Thank you so much for the effort you put on this page, I hope you keep up with your amazing work. Stay safe :)
I’m new to the BSD fandom and haven’t had the time to read anything more than short poems with my school schedule. Thank you for all the resources you provide to make the literature more accessible, I’ll be using it in the near future!
Is there a completely translated version of Dogra magra? If not I was planning on putting up my translation, an unofficial one...
It would be great if you could translate any work by Mushitaro Oguri, thank you!
It's that time of year!
It’s really amazing that you’ve taken the efforts to compile so many resources not only for bsd but also all the literary references and the books of the real life authors. I’m aiming to finish more of these books and your compilation is great for books that are hard to get. Thank you so much for making all of so accessible . I’d give you an award for this💕
Just found out the writings of Dazai and Akutagawa and I'm hooked! Can't get enough. I started off from your list so gotta thank you guys for opening this world to me. Keep up the good work!
"just wanted to say that i really appreciate and look up to the effort and dedication you put in your blogs and in the amazing online library, which is a saved link on my dashboard ahah! it helped me in particular with bsd novels and with reading japanese authors' works still unpublished in my country - plus i'm really interested in the articles! i'm very glad people are coming closer to japanese literature or bsd universe thanks to you. i'm sure bsd's authors would appreciate such a place, that brings together the wonderful stories they wanted to give us.
keep doing what you enjoy and good luck with everything! <3"
Keep up the good work!
Keep up with all the amazing work... you're doing good things for readers of Japanese literature everywhere! ;-)
love this website! please add more info to the newer character's fun facts and info please. (aka. hunting dogs etc.)
Love what you guys are doing - just wanted to say thank you 🤍🤍🤍
Not really related, but I wish in the future I am able to get one of the books by any of the japanese authors which bsd characters are based of.I have read about them and I have always been interested in books , and japanese fiction in particularly has always interested me, so I hope I can convince my mom to get The Beast Beneath the Moonlight at least. Also Im really glad i found this, i have access to the light novels this way.
One option in the favorite work section was "The Poems of Nakahara Chuuya", which was a little weird choice. Poets are hard to line up with novelists and other type of authors due to each poem being one piece of work. And translations are often done rather freely in collections that don't exist in Japanese, so it makes it even harder to talk about works of poets. Chuuya is one of BSD fandom's favorites and it's understandable that including something by him would serve a lot of people, but this option I found a little confusing, as there are those people who don't know it's a collection of his poems and not a general answer "Chuuya's poems, anything is fine" kind of answer... Or I assume you meant the translated collection and not what I just mentioned. I think if you really had to include some work/collection by Chuuya, you should maybe try including "Poems of the Goat" as an answer next time, as that's a collection which exists in Japanese and there is a proper English translation of it. Many people should know it, too, so awkward answers can be avoided hopefully.
Really love what you're doing. Thank you!!
Stay safe and be healthy!
Super interesting survey! Very curious to know what the results are, I took a class on Japanese Lit in college but watching BSD has really rekindled my love of it and BSD Bibliophile has been a necessary resource and very valuable when looking more on BSD and the relevant authors. Thank you for all the work you do!
Thank u for what u do!!! it's so great how people can find books bc of u you're so nice thank u sm!!! 💕
thank you anne for creating this beautiful blog and this beautiful library, i am very grateful to you, hope you are taking good care of yourself, stay healthy♡🌻🍀.
Thank you for all of your hard work!
Thank you for all the hard work!
Thank you for all you do for Japanese literature!!
Thank you for all your posts and resources
Thank you for giving people resources like this! It’s very helpful and makes it so much easier to find English translations of quotes and, now I actually know where to find the translations of full literature. I don’t have a lot of time to search on my own, so I’m very glad I found this blog.
thank you for making japanese literature available whether the reader is bsd fan or not. I really enjoy seeing different quotes from different authors everyday. I hope a copy of "a new hamlet" becomes available in the library.
Thank you for sharing the resources
Thank you for the lovely work you do, truly 🙏 I hope you have a great day 🌟
thank you for the online library, it makes it easy to find books that would otherwise be difficult to find in local libraries or bookstores :)
Thank you for this survey! It was fun! I like the posts! It's very creative and unique.
thank you for your hard work !!! your website is so very useful and i hope you know you're appreciated~
Thank you for your hard work, as always! Really appreciate how this site becomes the one-stop to find bsd related stuffs :)

Thank you for your lovely work in the BSD fandom and dedication to Japanese authors! Your book list collection is INCREDIBLE and I really love how you provide safe ways to share these works
Thank you for your work
thank you for your work!
thank you so much
Thank you so much for all of your work, on Tumblr, Twitter, and on your website! It's all incredibly interesting and so very useful! Just a little note: on the "Quotes" section of your website I have noticed quite a few typos in the quotes written there. I don't know if it's due to you manually typing all the quotes, but I felt like letting you know in hope that someone would be able to correct them. Thank you again for everything! I love seeing your posts on my feed!
Thank you so much for everything you do!!
Thank you so much for everything you do!! I need to use you as a resource more tbh, but you've been responsible for me learning so much, where it's otherwise difficult to find reliable English sources of Japanese authors and their history.
Thank you so much for making the website! I've used it so often, and it was insanely helpful. Please keep doing what youre doing. I'm a broke minor so I've had to use it multiple times, and it helped me and a lot of my friends read more.
Thank you so much for making this website :D
thank you so much for the entire bibliophile !!! it's been super helpful :)
thank you so much for this resource! it's always nice to have something interesting to read when im just aimlessly scrolling around
Thank you so much for your hard work and sharing the wonderful world of Japanese literature. I will continue to support this page and try my best to buy books and read as much as I can ≧ω≦
thank you so much for your hard work!🫶🏻
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much! I really enjoy using this website and reading the translated works you guys have. ^_^
Thank you so much! I really like BSD so I'm really happy that you've helped me and the fandom so much with your tumblr and Online Library! Great survey, too, even though I usually find these questions hard because I just can't choose sometimes. Sorry for rambling, and have a good day!
thank you so much! i will use your site more <3
Thank you very much for maintaing this library and providing us with titles which are such a pleasure to read.
Thank you!
Thank you!
Thank you! I love your blog and online library so much 🥺💕 In my living situation, I cannot easily acquire the books you have in your library and it means the world to me that I can access them here. Not just the Japanese authors, but the others as well.
thanks for all your great work in mixing the best of japn literature and bsd! a virtual hug from the fandom's aunt. :v
thanks for all your hard work!!
thanks for doing this <3
Thanks for everything, hun!
Thanks for including us vn folks :D I really appreciate that!
Thanks for this blog it is amazing.
Thanks for your hardwork 🌟 I truly appreciate all that you have done.
Thankyou.
The BSD-Bibliophile Library has helped me learn more about the talented classical authors than I already knew as well as showing me ways of accessing works by said authors that I couldn't before. I am very grateful for the sites creation, thanks. :)
This blog helped me loads with my degree’s dissertation, so thank you so, SO much!!!
this is an amazing project
This was a cool survey :) Not too much of it applied to me, since my focus is Russian literature, but it was still interesting to fill out. Tysm for all the work you've done and continue to do!
this website is a blessing! thank you very much for your hard work everyone!
This website is like a gift from God. I am slowly working through all the author’s works on here. Please never delete it.
ty so much for existing I think I would cry if yall went poof one day
"Well i already had an Ebook waiting me to read for Edogawa ranpo, as well as i wanted to read more of him, Kyusaku Yumeno, Kenji Miyazawa and giving them a chance once i'm done with tests in 25/12, will the Survey last till then ? Cause i'm not going to be perfectly active before it
I hope so, otherwise i was and still exited reading and knowing about them ( only the 3 i listed apove ) so i'm glad to discover your page recently + i will use the BSD-Bibliophile Online Library once i have time to. Was too long comment wasn't it ? Have a great day !"
While I enjoy print books a lot more than ebooks, because of my circumstances I can often only buy ebooks or get scans. It's really hard for me to get this material, so I am profoundly thankful for the bsd bibliophile work! You guys got me through highschool haha, the amount of time I spent reading works I found in the page heavily rivals the time I spent studying and sleeping, but because I had such good distractions I was able to give it my all.
would you do something like this for other authors featured in bsd, for example Dostoyevsky, Fitzgerald, Lovecraft etc? I think it may be interesting to see as well :)
You are doing such a great job! I began reading more classic Japanese literature after I stumbled on your website (had just finished reading No Longer Human and was doing some research about Dazai), thought it'd end there but I found your list of books and went to read The Makioka Sisters and Naomi right after. I bet there's lots of others who did, too. Your work brings positive change to people. :)
You guys are good to translation of light novels and literature books.
you guys are really the best, thanks for making the translations <3.
You have an amazing resource and I appreciate it so much!
You're one of my favorite accounts ever and I think you're doing amazing work. Thank you!
you've changed my life man for real <3
You’re amazing for creating the library 📚
Your blog has helped me a lot with approaching Japanese literature, many thanks and good luck!
Your blog is pretty cool, i use it mostly to list the things I want to read, thank you for your work!
Your project is so admirable! I’m lucky that my favorite BSD author has a lot of published scholarship and that I have access to some of it via higher education - I got into Mori through translation theory in linguistics long before I knew BSD existed - but there are so many other works/authors that deserve greater attention. Accessibility is a real hindrance in many people’s personal education and research, I’m experiencing it now as I exit my privileged position in academia, and I’m grateful that the Bibliophile is working to combat it. Good luck out there, friend! :D

3 years baby!! It’s always nice to take the survey and be able to check more boxes
A wonderful place to look for and read literature. Thank you for your contribution and we will give our outmost support always. I hope that BSD Bibliophile also include more author's work aside authors featured in BSD so everyone can enjoy and find more love in literature. (ノ*>∀<)ノ♡
After many years, still easily one of my favorite blogs. Thanks for all your effort!
All your literary archives have made my afternoons so much more entertaining, thank you very much for all your hard work! <3
BSD has gotten me into even *more* Japanese authours than the ones in the show; the first one that springs to mind is Nagai Kafuu (who is *REALLY* poetic)
Happy holidays <3
Happy holidays to all the people behind the library! 💕
have a good day :)
have a wonderful life random stranger <3
Hello :)
Hello! I absolutely love the website you've made. The links and information are so helpful for getting to access the books. Thank you so much for making this!!
Hello! I discovered your work on Tumblr, then the website, now the Twitter and this forms! It is amazing and it is helping me a lot to find the material for a current work I'm doing at school, thank you so much for starting it!
Hello! Thank you so much for doing this poll at the end of the year, I always look forward to it! ❤️ I'm disappointed in myself because this year I didn't get to read and experience the japanese literature that inspired BSD, but it's definitely one of my purposes for the year coming (✧ω✧). Happy holidays and thank you for your hard work! ₍ᐢ..ᐢ₎
Help sigma 2021
Hi :)
Hi :) I haven't visited the online library for a while. I'm glad that I can still answer this form (last year I couldn't participate). Translators, thank you for your hard work <3333
i discovered ur tumblr a few weeks ago and im in love <3
I don't know if this helps, but I was into Dazai before finding out about BSD and only watched the anime after the only google searches for him in english were of this anime man wrapped in bandages
I don't know what to say but I just want to tell you that you did this website so cool. I can find information and everything I am interested in Bsd here. That is super cool and i appreciate it. Go on and make new good bsd things <3
i feel so basic just answering dazai,, howeverrr i am in the works of expanding my literature collection— so i do intend on looking into quite a few more authors featured in bsd !!!
i filled this out for a friend as we were messing around on a vc and looking up bsd stuff uhmmmmmm i have never done anything with any of these people or engaged in the media uhmmm but you guys have a lot of fun from what i see so keep at it :)
i have started reading nakahara chūya and from what i’ve read so far i’m in love.
I have the audio books but it was not an option in the survey
I listed Dazai as my favourite author mostly because his work is the easiest to access in English translation, so it’s who I have read the most.
i love bsd bibliophile < 3
I LOVE BSD BIBLIOPHILE!! PLEASE KEEP THE GOOD WORK GOING, I'M GLAD THAT I FOUND THIS WEBSITE!
I love seeing the results for these surveys!! Thank you so much for pulling them together!! You all do so much work and I love this site. So grateful to you. Have wonderful holidays!
I love the way you guys post little excerpts/quotes from books on your website.I come here for those every day and somedays, the posts have just what I needed to hear to go through the day or the perfect book recommendation for me!Also it is all thanks to your online library that I grew to love literature in general, especially Japanese literature.God bless you for what you do.Much love from Bangladesh and Thank you!💕
I love this site so much and am so grateful to the people who created it and continue to run it!! :))) Thank you!!!
I love your blog!
I love your website <3
I love your website and tumblr its really useful. Thanks for making it! It introduced me to a lot of really good authors.
I love your website so much! It's a great resource and honestly my saving grace in terms of finding rarer translated works without buying them on Amazon.
I really hope a lot of fans can learn a lot about Japanese literature & their authors. It's very unique & each author has their own style. Looking forward to S4 as well!
I really like BSD Bibliophilie, tysm for building this website up!!
I really want to be more into Japanese Literature and this will help me a lot! Thankssss
I studied American literature in university, which is why I checked out BSD. Your website has been the best english language resource for learning about the Japanese literature that BSD made me interested in and was immensely helpful when my libraries didn’t have materials or I couldn’t ILL them - such as Mori Ogai’s works. I also really enjoy learning so much about the authors as its so hard to find translated information on them beyond your website.
I want to read as many works as I can of all the authors. But right now studies are my first priority,so I'll start reading them afterwards. Plus your blog is absolutely splendid and a blessing for me. Have a nice day/night
I would love for more of Japanese literature translated in English to be available in India!
"I'm currently working on a magazine for a class at my Uni, it will decide my final grade and we are free to use any topic that interests us. I choose Japanese Literature and the BSD-Bibliophile Online Library has helped me tremendously in my research. I can't thank you enough for putting all this information together!
Sincerely, a very grateful German student :D"
I'm glad you do this survey every year. The results are interesting to me
I'm looking forward to the results. Have a great day!
I'm so grateful to find this space to appreciate Japanese Literature. Many of these authors have not yet translated in my country, so it's great to see people dedicated themselves so that others can access beautiful stories.
I'm still in the beginning of reading Japanese literature, but I will increase my reading of Japanese authors and books, and I still want to read BSD manga!
i’m so grateful for bsd bibliophile it’s given me the opportunity to read many different works from the authors which i can’t buy or i can’t find them translated to my own language (which is the case of tachihara michizo and i’ve grown to love his poetry thanks to you) i’m also grateful for updating the manga and the light novels, i’ve bought some off amazon but if it weren’t for you i would have been missing on content i adore, bsd is one (if not the main) reasons why i haven’t left my literature major
idk if this is the right place but i really enjoy this page - its both made so aesthetically pleasing and has so much material!!!
It's been a bit more than a year since I got into BSD and Japanese literature and I really wanna thank the people who run this blog and online library. Without this collection I wouldn't have been able to learn this much about Japanese authors and enjoy many of their works since they're very difficult to find where I live. Thank you so much and keep up the good work! ^-^ ♡
"It's really exposure bias towards Akutagawa for me, since i've read 19 of his stories as opposed to 1 by Ranpo, and just a few poems by Chuuya and Yosano.
It was tough choosing between Spinning Gears and Kappa, but I had to go with spinning Gears just from how much It resonated with me."
"Japanese literature is kinda familiar to me in term of recent authors. So, when I found out what kinda manga/anime BSD is, it's like an open door for me to get to know and dig more Japanese literature. That's is one of the biggest reason I love BSD so much. Bc if it's not because of its real literature references, I don't think I am gonna read the manga after I watched the anime–finding more about its light novel is another joyful moment :')
And then there is this: BSD bibliophile! You all are really helpful for me so that I can enjoy more Japanese authors' works. Thank you! 🥺✨"
love the blog <333 keep up the great work and have a nice day :D
Love you Bib!!
Love your website/online library, keep up the great work!
"Maybe not something I should say here but I would love to be able to read much more in the future. English is not my first language and it is sometimes difficult to read in English, but in Spanish there is not really that much material about Japanese literature.
So next time I see a poll like this, I hope I will be able to mark more authors than I did now."
Miłego dnia ;)
nice survey
Nice to see you’re doing this survey again! We filled this out together. Thanks for always supporting Japanese literature. Doc and Reiko
no longer human changed my life
Note on the "how many books do you own" question: I responded none because most works I read I download as epubs off the Z-Lib online library for free. If those counted, well... if google play books doesn't lie, puts me at around 60 or so (of which I have read only a fraction). Shifting gears: I don't think I can find the words to describe how much I appreciate the content and resources provided on this blog. It regularly makes my day with the quote+illustration posts, and sometimes even my week when I get around to reading a few works, usually ones I can't find anywhere else. The work done here feels so invaluable to me, so I'll like to extend my most heartfelt "thanks" to you. Best wishes!
Nothing to say tbh. Happy holidays and thank you for your work!
Odasaku deserved better :(
Once I found the BSD online library, I was so relieved since I didn’t know where or how to start, so thank you very much!
Tanizaki's underrated imo

Thank you for all you do, and hope your month is going well!
Thank you for all your efforts and hardwork! The works of authors in BSD really deserve to be more known (no matter how popular thay already are.) I enjoy reading their books and discovering more about their connection with their BSD character counterpart. I love this fandom, really. also, happy holidays!
Thank you for all your efforts! The website is always an absolute treat to scroll through, and the amount of information within it is phenomenal!!
Thank you for all your hard work !!! We appreciate it a lot <3
Thank you for all your work in the website! It's a godsend!
Thank you for all your work, and I would personally be very excited to see more translations of Oda's works, as those seem to be few and far between.

Thank you so much for providing an online library! I've been dying to read Japanese Lit, but no physical books are available in the nearest bookstore here.
Thank you so much for the translations!
Thank you so much for this library and survey and all the work that goes into it!! You’re such a pillar of the bsd fandom and really help encourage people to read the authors and to find their works <3
Thank you very much for your posts, researches and articles on BSD and Japanese authors! Thanks to them I've learned a lot of new things and have read a lot of amazing books from your blog:) Wish you good luck and kindly ask you to continue, since it is one of the best sources I've ever met
Thank you!
Thank you! :3
Thank you! ((:
Thanks for the hard work !
Thanks for your hard work!
That was a nice survey, hope you have a nice day 💕
There are many many books of the authors featured in bsd that I want to read (i.e. Hikari to Kaze to Yume by Atsushi Nakajima, I am a Cat by Natsume Soseki, etc.) it’s just that I haven’t found the time to do so. Also, love your posts!!
This blog has been with me forever since I'm into BSD and it is still amazing. Thank you so much for the dedication to BSD and literature in general.
this online library is everything to me! the dedication, the passion, IT'S AMAZING! i discovered this more than a year ago and it's been helping me know the authors. also love the quotes from the tumblr, whenever i see an interesting line, it makes me want to read the book! literature is so interesting and i'm glad BSD introduced me to it, and i'm happy this online library gives me more information about it. so, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
This was an interesting quiz! I was having a hard time choosing between dazai osamu and Chuuya Nakahara, but other than that this was enjoyable
this was fun :)

How cool you included translators in this! You ROCK.
bsd kunikida needs a vacation
Bungou Stray Dogs have been a blessing for me ever since I started watching the series last year. I had lost my drive for reading and writing as a hobby, university and disillusionment with the publishing industry killed that, but now I have been revitalized thanks to the series. Not only did it drive me to go back to writing original works, but I have started writing fanfiction again after almost ten years of hiatus from story writing. The BSD online library has been a blessing not only as a source of research for the writers for my fanfic, but also has been the only way that I have been easily been able to get a hold of some works by the authors in English, my preferred reading language. Please keep up the good work! Thank you so much for everything that you have provided for this fandom.
Buraiha,,,, just them
Do not make me choose between Dazai and Chuuya, I cannot, they are both my favs lol.
for the question about how many books by japanese authors i own, i responded with more
Hello friend! Twain’s my favourite in bsd but this is about japanese literature soooo than 10, but to clarify: they are not all from bsd authors.
hello!! just a quick thank you note!! im polish and variety here in japanese literature (either in polish or english) is very limited, but thanks to your website it’s very easy to find works i want to read both by japanese or russian authors. i also like the fact that i can read abt the authors’ connections and how they influenced each other in their works, and get some historical context. i want to be a translator in the future, so i’m incredibly grateful for this kind of accessibility. keep up the good work and thank you once again!!! <333 - julia sz
I will like to thank you for all the information that you have supplied us on the tumblr page. Also I will like to know if you have any information about “A New Hamlet” the adaptation Dazai made of Hamlet. You will really help me if you know anything about it.
hi, i really enjoy your blog and “no longer human” as well as “the moon over the mountain” are on my christmas list. i hope to learn more about these authors and i wish you a good day!
Hi! Just hope you have a great day!
I am currently learning Japanese and I hope one day I can read these authors works in Japanese instead of a translation
I am interested in reading literary works translated into languages other than English, but have difficulty finding ways to read them. For BSD, I also watch the recordings of stage plays. Also, BSD and the authors have sparked my interest in other Japanese literature (I really like Banana Yoshimoto’s books). Lastly, thanks for the online library, it’s such a huge help!
I am sad to have to answer that I’ve not read these authors. I just watched the whole anime in the last two weeks and am going to go read some of these authors now. I actually have two literature degrees from US institutions and have become increasingly aware of how awfully western they are. I love this anime and am glad it’s opened me up to these authors. I’m excited to read them.
I can’t wait to see what you do with these results!!
I cannot thank you & your blog enough for helping me fall further in love with Bungou Stray Dogs. Keeping so many works in an easy-to-access place is also a total lifesaver–and you just made it all the more easier to realize my love for literature. I know I’m rambling, but thank you so much!
I have a question, is it better to read these Japanese novels in their original language (Japanese) or does it not really matter if you read the English translation? I guess it’s a given that reading it in Japanese is more authentic, but I’m just wondering if it’s really worth it to learn such a complex language just for the sake of authenticity. Are English translations at least 90% legit anyway?
I have read most Japanese works in English except for the poetry of Nakahara Chūya, which I read in/translated from Japanese.
I have very mixed feeling towards BSD, I prefer the side stories rather than the main plot and I only like a small choice of characters, but I appreciate the series for introducing me to many great authors that I hadn’t known.
I hope you have a great day!!
I just found BSD Biblio blog recently, but still I get to know about the real life authors a lot. I can’t understand japanese much, so this blog truly helps me to know more about the authors and their remarkable works. I’m greatly appreciate the efforts that had been put on this blog ^^ My deepest gratitude to the translators~♡
I just wanted to say thank you for your big interest in sharing japanese literary œuvres on the internet. Here in Spain there aren’t many works translated in spanish, and those that are translated, have a poor translation, except the works of Dazai. Your page lets me enjoy many pieces of art from the great japanese writers!
I love bsd and bsd-bibliophile is a great blog
I love the blog and my favorite things are the quotes! Keep up the good work. <3
I love the universe that taught me to love books.
I love this blog and thank you sm for all the love and hard work you put into it. Thank you.
I love your blog, but I didn’t know you had a library! I’m definitely checking it out, since where I live it’s not easy to find the books of all the authors and I want to read at least one book of each! ❤️
I love your blog:)
I love your blog!
I love your tumblr! Thank you so much for collecting all the information about the authors!
I LOVE YOUR WEBSITE ITS AMAZING THANK YOUUUU
I love your work and dedication!
I mostly make do with the books that are available in my public library, thus the only physical copy I own is “the key” bu tanizaki (if that’s the correct translation of the novel)
I play the BSD mobage; that is about as far as I am into BSD as a fandom, as I’ve only began a couple months ago.
I prefer print, but ebooks are good when that’s what’s available. I started reading the BSD manga, but stopped. I enjoy it much more just vicariously through my friends who read the manga and novels. Thanks for providing Japanese lit content all the time! I’m trying to learn Japanese, but I’ve a long way to go, so it’s cool to learn about authors and possible English translations.
I read a lot more Japanese authors than I used to before, due to the anime Bungo Stray Dogs
I really adore what you do. Though I have not been very active in the library due to real life issues, I look forward to sitting down and looking through it!
I really appreciate BSD-Bibliophile. I’ve learned a lot and I know without it, I might not have gotten this into Japanese literature!
i really enjoy seeing your posts on my feed and reading quotes from various writers. thank you for your effort, i really appreciate it :)
I really like that you share quotes of these authors, they’re really interesting to read! :) It also helps me to decide what I want to read next haha
I really want to read the light novels, I wish one day you can upload them! Love this page so much!!
I saw a few posts from your blog on Twitter and I’ll definitely follow it from now on! What you all are doing is truly amazing and I wish you and your blog only the best! (I don’t have enough free time to dive into as many books as I wish I could, so your blog is really helpful)
I think Asagiri-sensei try to promote these famous Japanese authors and I really glad he did because I actually like the poems and story by these authors and whenever I read you guys post a quote from any of their books, I feels the need to buy the book. Thank you for your hardwork!
I think your work in organizing and encouraging people to engage in Japanese literature beyond the series that introduced them to it is awesome.
I use BSD-Bibliophile so much and am very grateful to have it!
I wanted to read some of Dazai’s, Kenji’s and Akutagawa’s works, but they are hard to find in physical stores
I wanted to thank for both the blog and the online library for granting me acess to works that are either too expensive or not available in my country <3
I’m following BSD for 4 years and I read literature of BSD authors as much as I can. I’m deeply in love with its characters, and I’m delighted every time I discover the references from the real life authors and their works. I recommend for those who want to go in-depth with BSD to read the literature, or at least learn about the real life authors. It worths the time. You’ll love BSD even more, and maybe the real life authors and their works as well.
I’m new to Bungou Stray Dogs, and I plan on getting my hands on the manga soon! and also the works of the real authors the characters are based off of. :)
I’m so thankful for the site! Since I can’t afford the actual book, I am able to read them thru here and if you don’t mind, please add Hagiwara Sakutaro’s Hownling at The Moon and Kikuchi Kan’s Beyond the Pale of Vengeance. Thank you!
I’m so thankful to the amount of effort put into this blog. Thank you so much.
I’ve been following you for years, your blog is one of my favorites. Thanks for all you do!
I’ve come by this website a few times, but today is the first time I’ve really read anything on here. The posts provide a lot of insight. I’ll definitely be coming back here to make use of the online library. Thanks for making this available!
I’ve read and enjoyed Dazai’s works, and he’s the one I choose for favourite, but it’s hard - if I had to choose a second I’d go with Chuuya’s poetry. I’ve somehow wound up reading and re-reading it both for reference in my own works, and just because I want to, when I like.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all the works I’ve found through this series and I highly recommend people look into Tachihara’s poetry! He’s my favorite poet ever and his work is highly underrated.
I’m very thankful for this blog. It’s heaven-sent for a booklover and fan of Japanese literature for me. I’m sure you’re constantly trying to update the library, but there are a few very rare books I’ve always wanted to read but I’m not sure if I’ll get to. Can you add “Azamukazaru no Ki” by Kunikida Doppo? I’m not sure if there exists an English translation, but I’d be eternally grateful even if you uploaded the original Japanese (actually, I would prefer that to the translation, even though it would take a million years for me to decipher the whole of it, at my level of knowledge of the Japanese language. Japanese and English being poles apart in grammatical structure, a lot of the nuances of a Japanese piece is lost in a translation, and this being a record of Kunikida’s innermost feelings, I would prefer to read the original.) I also want to read the reports Kunikida made while he was a war correspondent during the Sino-Japanese war, that made him famous as a writer and journalist, but I’m not sure if those could be available. Please include Kunikida’s wonderful poetry too. I have mostly read some them in the original Japanese, or Bengali translations made by a senpai of mine, but I would love to read more. As you can probably tell, Kunikida is one of my favourite Japanese authors (although I selected Akutagawa as my favourite in the survey… I love both of their writings equally, but the survey only wanted one answer, so I chose Akutagawa.) Please include writings of other Japanese authors who are not featured in BSD as well, if that is possible (you could maybe create a different section for them?) One of my favourite Japanese authors is Komatsu Sakyou, but I’ve only been able to read one book of his (“Japan Sinks”). I also want to read “Virus: the Day of Resurrection”, “Take Your Choice” and assorted short stories written by him, but Japanese literature is unfortunately not at all easily available where I live. Which is all the more reason I’m so thankful for your blog. I wouldn’t have been able to read so many amazing books of some of my favourite authors if it hadn’t been for your blog. So, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope you will read this and consider my requests. Have a nice day :)
it is through bsd-bibliophile’s blog that i am able to go in-depth about japanese authors, so thank you so much! and just a little suggestion, though you don’t have to do this if you don’t have time or there’s simply not any reason for you to do it, i would really love to answer a survey not only featuring japanese authors but all authors across different literatures (japanese, american, english, russian) who are featured in bsd because i think that would be fun as well. and this is really a fun survey~ thank you so much!
It was very fun to fill this list.
It’s too hard to choose only one character or author
Keep doing what you do, it’s amazing!
keep the great works!
Loved this!!! 💕
Nothing in particular. I just wanna thank you for having this survey. Loving BSD forever.
Since I only recently fell into the world of BSD and Japanese literature I haven’t been able to read many of the works I want. I’m quite eager to read “No Longer Human” by Dazai-sensei since I really liked his style. An interesting thing is that I wasn’t very fond of reading poetry until I discovered Yosano-sensei and Miyazawa-sensei, I enjoyed their work a lot. I’m very grateful to this blog, I wouldn’t have been able to immerse myself this much into Japanese literature and read all this wonderful works if it wasn’t for you so thank you so much! Keep up the good work!! ♡
Thank you for all of your hard work in these translations; reading Japanese literature has always been my wish. Being able to find and read their works in English is the greatest thing that’s happened to me.
Thank you for all the hard work! You all curate the content so carefully and do so much for the fandom. It’s one of my favorite bsd
Thank you for all the work you do~ and thank you for the library as well~
Thank you for all the work you’ve done💕✨
Thank you for all your hard work!
Thank you for continuing your work on this blog!
Thank you for everything you do!
Thank you for helping me find the translated copy of Return to Tsugaru by Osamu Dazai a while back!
Thank you for making the online library available! It’s a great way to read some of these works that are not easily found elsewhere.
Thank you for providing the PDF’s of these books, I don’t want to buy them until I know I like them because it’s hard for me to read because of my ADHD, so thank you for providing them in English!!!!
Thank you for the survey!
Thank you for this site! It really helps me to learn more about the Japanese Literature. Thank you to everyone who worked hard to translate the manga and light novels! I cannot decide which author I liked the best nor which book I liked most. It really is hard for me too choose! *sends love to everyone in this site*
thank you for this site! this really feeds my reading and BSD obsession <3
Thank you for your hard work :)
Thank you for your hard work, BSD Bibliophile! You are amazing! ;)
Thank you for your hard work!
Thank you for your work ♥
thank you so much for all that you do!!
Thank you so much for all your work on the BSD Bibliophile website!
Thank you so much for both your blog and the online library!!
Thank you so much for bringing closer the translated works and thanks for the authors who translated them
thank you so much for creating this special blog! I love it and really adore it
Thank you so much for your great work! your blog is a treasure for those who don’t speak Japanese but are in love with Japanese literature (─‿‿─)♡
thank you so much for your website!!! sending love from hk!! :DD
Thank you so much for your wonderful work in making Japanese literature more accessible, so people who cannot find them in their country are also able to enjoy them <3
Thank you very much for your efforts in providing information and reading materials for everyone! I find your blog and website especially useful since I can’t seem to find any physical copies here where I’m from.
Thank you!
Thank you.
Thanks for all of your hardwork!
thanks for ur hard work <3
Thankyou so much for this amazing collection of Japanese writers and BSD!
The translations from the BSD Library are amazing.
there’s always more than one favorite character or author but it is hard to pick between them
This blog is has so many posts that have helped me to read these literary work and became an important part of my life. Thank you for all moderators for sharing these beautiful works.
This is an interesting survey for bsd franchise also for the people who like and read Japanese literature. As a casual franchise wanderer, I’d like to fill this for showing my country existence//slaps wwwwwwwww. Thank you for providing this survey. Salam Literasi!
This library is amazing!
This was fun!! I use the bsd-bibliophile tumblr a lot - reading the quotes helps me pick which book to read next!! Through reading the Japanese literature written by BSD characters, I’ve since found other Japanese authors I love like Sakutarō Hagiwara and Dan Kazou, too!!!! <3
To clarify some of my answers, The Japanese books I own are mostly children’s books. My parents however, have some Japanese novels and short stories as they are from Japan (for example my mom has a copy of Kumo no Ito by Akutagawa). I never finished Setting Sun nor Kokoro. I got about halfway through both before I had to return it to the library. The only other jp lit I’ve read not including poems is like a quarter of Snow Country by Kawabata Yasunari.
would just like to thank you for always providing the resources for BSD fans! i have been introduced to some of my favourite all-time works since discovering your blog and your resources!
You have a great blog, thank you all!
You’re doing amazing work. Thank you so much for all you do for this fandom and the Japanese literary sphere in general.
You’re the best!
Your blog is absolutely amazing and if i hadn’t found it i wouldn’t have been able to read any of the BSD authors’ works, i downloaded each one that interested me in PDF from your blog, hence why i admire it so much and i am so grateful for it. It is obvious that you put a huge amount of work into this blog and i love to wake up to new quotes and fragments every day. Keep up the great work, with love, a reader from Romania!
Your blog is amazing. Keep up the great work! Much support ♥️
your blog is SO helpful for my master’s thesis on japanese literature. there is basically nothing in my country about japanese authors and i cannot thank you enough for the work you have done. seriously you are saving my life !!!!!!!!!! i really hope you have a good day!!!! you are really awesome™
Your BSD Library is very helpful for me, thank you for your efforts on creating it!
Your website is great, and I really appreciate your work, it’s makes it so much easier to find Japanese literature and to find new authors.
Your work is beautiful and you have expanded my knowledge of international literature so much; thank you :)

(i know no one asked but i have no friends so-) currently reading crime and punishment and it actually feels like a punishment. but it’s so good—
<3
Although i have not read any japanese authors books, I have read the books for Edgar Allan Poe and Louisa May Alcott
As character Chuuya is my favourite, but I still haven’t managed to read anything by the author! In Brazil there’s a collection of Japanese short stories and most of the authors I’ve read are from there, though the book is a bit old. The others I looked up on the internet or bought ebooks, mostly in English. I’ve got to know Miyazawa Kenji before I started reading BSD due to a Japanese TV program that introduced Yoshinori-sensei and his reading of the poem! So he has a special place in my heart :)
Bless this survey
Bsd (but quite honestly, your blog in particular) really awakened my love for literature and critical analysis which has been laying dormant for a while. I used to be quite good at literary analysis when I was studying romanian literature in school back in my home country, and although the subject was, unsurprisingly, abhorred by most of my classmates, I quite liked it. I hope I can go back to that someday. Thank you for the effort you put in this literature blog.
cant wait to see the results to the survey!!! ive been curious about this too, so this is very exciting for me, especially since this anime got me back into reading
Choosing the favorite author and favorite work was too harsh (I love all of them, impossible), but I tried. Can you please tell any sources, where its possible to read any works in English? Reading in Japanese is nice, but takes too much time :( And, as always, thank you for your hard work!
Chuuya’s poems ? I would die for them. I’m a big sucker for poetry and there’s something, somehow, inside them, that just… leaves me spechless.
Creating a discord channel to disscus about literary heroes and their works.
For the question “What Japanese BSD author are you most interested in reading whose works you HAVE NOT read?” I also want to say that I’d love to read Ogurri Mushitarou’s works. <3
Gambatte💕
Happy to participate in the survey! <3!
have a nice day! ^^
Hello! Your work is amazing. Thanks for bringing all those facts and interesting quotes on these authors. Your work is really appreciated :) Have a great day!
Hi!
Hope this helps! :)
I am a huge live for reading and am planning to one by one read all of the books from the bsd authors!!
Also, I have read most of the works from the western authors featuring in bsd (since they are more available) like Fyodor’s Crime and Punishment, Agatha’s And Then There Were None and many of Poe’s short stories!! And I felt overwhelming happiness when I saw them in the series!! Thank you ^-^
I am planning to read more of their works.
I do feel quite bad and embarassed about not reading any of the author’s works, but i will read their works some day
I don’t know if it is a coincidence but after I started watching the anime the libraries of my city suddenly had books of Dazai, Chuuya and Tanizaki. What they were too expensive for me to purchase.
I don’t suppose you have any recommendations on where to start reading these novels in English?
I don’t really know much about BSD but I’ve been a long-time reader of Japanese literature. It’s nice that there is more exposure & interest in these books. Thank you for your blog. I hope it would lead to an introduction to other Japanese works like the classics, poetry, performance arts like kabuki, modern literature, etc.
I have marked Dazai as my favorite, though I’m not really sure if that is true, it’s just I have only read The Setting Sun and No Longer Human, so I can’t say much of my thoughts on the other authors, though I do want to read works from more of the authors the BSD characters are based on.
I have read only one short story by Akutagawa, and so I understood why the writers of BSD weren’t favored by the people in their era, considering his short story talked about the time imperial Japan taken over Joseon (Korea) and yet he made the evil ones are the Japanese, he wasn’t afraid to address his country’s bad regime, and that’s an impressive thing to be very honest, hopefully I will increase my knowledge about the authors of BSD
I haven’t read any literature yet, but I do mean to someday (ideally in japanese, although I’m still learning the basics so it might be awhile yet)
I honestly wish I read a lot more by the japanese authors. Just from the quotes you guys post, I get a desire to go out and buy a book from one of them. I’ll definitely get one by Yosano this month, and then probably other BSD authors. I wish they included Japanese authors as well in school literature, like, for an example : Fyodor and pretty much whole Guild are authors you HAVE to read in my country’s schools.
I like how you asked about the language of the books! I’m looking forward to the results :)
I like that i have learned about japanese culture through this works and i would have not learned about many of them without BSD. BSD have also inspired me to read other autors, or finish books from them. I love “La Nariz” from Gogol and i think i would have not learned about that story if i hadn’t known BSD.
I love Ranpo-kun!
I love reading all Japanese literature, because of the unique style and approach they have toward writing. The poetry especially is very different than traditional western style, and the short stories are often written about subjects that most westerners do not touch on. I love both, but find them enjoyable for different reasons. I just wish I could read more of their works, but it is difficult to attain them sometimes, especially the more rare authors!
Keep up the good work, you got me inspired to explore more authors that I might have never even heard of otherwise!
I LOVE RL RANPO SO MUCH. HE’S THE LIGHT OF MY LIFE. I THANK BSD EVERY DAY FOR INTRODUCING US.
I love your blog, and this is cool.
I love your post about facts of the authors because it’s so satisfying know why in the anime characters have some attitudes, relationship or actions
I love your tumblr 😉
I managed to buy a book with a lot of Japanese short stories and most of them are in BSD, I haven’t really read it yet. My brother actively studies Japanese and one of his materials is a collection of short stories from Akutagawa and Natsume in both English and Japanese. I hope to read it in Japanese one day. Your blog is great, thank you.
I truly enjoy your tumblr, thank you
I want to read Dazai Osamu’s work but I don’t where to read it, don’t have money to buy the real book…
I want to read their works but finding time to read is a bit hard with my life. If you know any good free pdfs then pls tell me. Have a good day! 😊
I wish I knew Japanese because there will always be something lost within translation.
I would like to read all works, but I’m too lazy
I’d like to translate Dogra Magra into English but I’d need a proofreader as my English isn’t that good…do you know anyone who’d be willing to help?
I’m currently a graduate student so most of my reading is dictated by my classes, but BSD has definitely created in me a curiosity to read Japanese literature!
I’m not a fervent bibliophile like yourself but I do really like your quote choices, it’s what got me really interested in those authors I have not read. I don’t follow many tumblers but yours I particularly enjoy a lot, and it’s also great we both like the bsd anime /manga! Keep up the good work I always look forward to your posts.
I’ll just take this opportunity to thank you for all your hard work in the fandom. One of the things I love the most about bsd is seeing how the authors and their works influence their manga counterparts. I would’ve never known so much about them if it wasn’t for your blog. Thank you so much!!
I’m in the middle of reading No Longer Human
I’m most familiar with British and American authors, but I love that BSD showed me so many more Japanese and Russian authors that I didn’t know existed (that’s more because of my high school but we don’t need to talk about that)
Is it weird that I actually find Kajii’s stories… delightful? So much so that I want more from his character! Anyways, thanks for sharing your love for literature!!
keep up the good work, your blog is awesome!
Keep up the good work! <3
Looking forward to the results. Thank you for your hard work!
Mishima Yukio
miyazawa kenji is my favourite jp author but in terms of BSD charas, chuuya has my favourite design.
Mori-san writes really well
Most of the BSD authors I read were the American authors and it was interesting to compare and contrast eastern to western writing
My favorite author is Dazai, but Akutagawa also have some literary works that deserves to be readed.
Nakajima atsushi works bring me a lot of happiness somehow
Reading their literary works make me understand BSD’s characters better. So try reading ones if you haven’t read them yet. :)
Since starting to become a fan of BSD, I’ve also started up a collection of books by the IRL authors on my bookshelf; I’ve just not got around to reading some of them yet, and others on the list are hard to find or expensive when they are available (Atsushi’s Light, Wind, and Rain and Ayatsuji’s Another especially). I also like reading about the IRL authors and seeing quotes, so I’ve seen bits and pieces about more authors than I felt was right to say I’ve read an entire work from.
Stan best boy Chuuya 🥺
Thank you
Thank you for all the traductions and your hard work. It is hard to know or obtain information about japanese writers in my country, so I really appreciate all of your work and traductions.
Greetings from Mexico ୧(^ 〰 ^)୨
Thank you for all your hard work, thanks to you I’ve developed an interest to Japanese literature, and seeing your posts each day put a smile on my face, so thank you sempai, lots of love from a French fan ! ^-^
thank you for conducting this survey and for all of your work providing quotes, facts etc. about the authors on your tumblr as well!
Thank you for making this survey, I was actually interested ti see how many people actually read.
Thank you for making this survey!
thank you for providing us with easy to access works from these authors 💕
Thank you for your hard work !
Thank you for your work on bsd bibliophile. I wouldn’t have discovered all of those books without your blog
Thank you very much for the work you do. I study japanese literature at my university, but I couldn’t find many works you post about, because they aren’t translated in italian, unfortunately.
Thanks for all the effort and time you put into your blog! I always enjoy seeing your posts on my dashboard.
Thanks for all your quotes and facts!! I love your tumblr page !!
Thanks for the survey! Have a pleasant day :)
The works of BSD authors I have read so far are varied. But rather than critique them, I actually enjoy reading them especially No Longer Human because I felt like I can related to Osamu Dazai to some degree.
This survey is really interesting! I wonder if the writers are as popular as the characters!
I want to have some free time quickly so I can read some more BSD authors! My favorite japanese authors though are Banana Yoshimoto and Haruki Murakami. I’ve read works of Kensaburo Oé, Yukio Mishima and a little bit of Yasunari Kawata too and I wish they could appear on BSD haha it would be really cool!
PD: I love OP blog, they are one of the most original and cool fandom blogs I’ve seen. I think Asagiri would love it :D
This survey was nice to do ^.^
Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find books from Asia in my country (translated or not). I would really like to be able to read more of them.
You may have missed Yokomizo Seishi? Not exactly a character that appears, but at least he’s part of the perfect murder arc. I’ve only read the Inugami Clan but loved it a lot!
I started exploring Japanese lit because of a metal band I like called 人間椅子, whose entire discography is an homage to Japanese horror/mystery lit, but especially Edogawa Ranpo’s works. To be honest, I’ve been avoiding reading in English because I wanted to read in the original and (until recently) hadn’t had the proficiency to do that comfortably. Finally catching up though! Plus, I’ve been more appreciative of quality translation work, so more willing to read these things in English too.
You’re one of my most favourite blogs online ever and I’m so happy you’re doing this! Please share the data with us once you’re finished. Thank you for your efforts!
your blog is a blessing ✨ thank you so much for bringing fans closer to the bsd authors themselves through presenting their works.
your blog is hella rad thank you for running it :’)
