Welcome to Troop 777. Whether you are familiar with Scouting from your own youth, advancing with your youth from Cub Scouts, transitioning from Sea or Venture Scouts or simply new to Scouting in general, we hope you find this information serves you well.
Troop 777 is a Scout-led, adult leader guided troop that is chartered by the Hermitage Church of the Nazarene. We are located in the Percy Priest District of the Middle Tennessee Council. We are a Scouts BSA Troop, so we emphasize outdoor activities, community involvement and leadership development. Troop 777 has surpassed it's own 62nd anniversary as we were founded in 1962. We are very happy to say we are quickly approaching our 100th Eagle Scout.
The aim of Scouting within the BSA is personal growth through character development, leadership development, citizenship training and personal fitness, which is accomplished through experiences with controlled outdoor programs, established and reinforced ideals, guided advancement, meaningful service projects and association with both senior Scouts as well as positive, influential role model adults.
If you experienced Scouting as a youth, it may have been as a Daisy, Brownie, Junior, Cadette or Senior in the Girl Scouts of America or as a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Sea Scout, Explorer Scout or Varsity Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. The two organizations, while closely aligned in philosophy, are separate. You may notice that while the organization entity of the Boy Scouts of America remains the same, the Boy Scouts program changed its name to Scouts BSA in 2019, to become more diverse and inclusive of all youth, allowing young women to participate and gain the potential to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
Those aren't the only positive changes Scouting has embraced. Today, all of our adult leaders who have interaction with youth are required to have a background check completed as well as complete an extensive amount of training. We have safety precautions in place, such as two-deep leadership - which means that no Scouting activity (including meetings) can occur unless we have at least two (2) registered and trained adult leaders over the age of 21 present. Additionally, for any Scouting activity that involves female Scouts, a registered and trained female adult leader over the age of 21 must also be present. Beyond that, any and all one-on-one interaction between adult leaders and youth members is prohibited, and strictly adhered to, both inside and outside of Scouting.
You might be able to tell, but we are excited about our program and relish the opportunity to get our Scouts out into the wilderness, teach them through an incremental series of attainable challenges and help them to acquire skills that will make them more self-reliant. On their first few campouts, we often see our new Scouts achieve things they previously didn't think were possible for them to do. Learning by doing is the best way to find accomplishment and achieve new heights.
