At our meeting, on Monday, January 13th, 2025, the Scouts voted to attend Week Three (June 22-28, 2025) at Camp Roy C. Manchester in Pfeffer Scout Reservation located at Blue Heron Bay in Kentucky Lake, near Benton, KY. Pfeffer Scout Reservation is a 400-acre camp and is run by Lincoln Heritage Council, the same council that operates Camp Crooked Creek which we attended last summer, so we feel we can expect the same level of professionalism, energy, encouragement, and excitement that we experienced in 2024 Summer Camp.
Camp Manchester offers 2 primary experiences. The first is the normal summer camp experience, where you can attend various selectable merit badge classes (more than 45 will be offered) and activities to enjoy throughout the week. The second offering is something called Aquabase - a week-long adventure as part of a 3 or 4-member sailing crew. Scout Sailors will be on a boat with other Scout Sailors in a fleet of boats operated by Scouts. At least one of the boats in the fleet will be occupied by adult leaders. Together, the fleet will sail to various ports-of-call around the lake, cooking their meals aboard the craft and spending each night onboard all while learning the intricacies of sailing a real 25 foot sailboat (those pictured above are actual craft used at the camp.)
Listed below is some additional information regarding 2025 Summer Camp at Pfeffer Scout Reservation
Camp Manchester offers a pay-one-price experience, so there will be no additional fees for any specific merit badge activities, such as shooting sports, leatherworking kits, etc... however, Aquabase is offered at a higher cost than the normal summer camp option. Scouts who choose Aquabase will separate from the portion of the troop that chooses the regular summer camp experience and will be placed in crews with other scouts. Those participating in Aquabase will need to meet some minimum qualifications:
1) Age Requirement: 14 yo
2) Have been awarded the Small-Boat Sailing Merit Badge before arrival
3) First Class Swim Test passed in the most recent 90 days (expect to possibly be re-tested on site)
Summer Camp Fees Options:
Summer Camp: $450.00
Aquabase: $550.00
Adults: $150.00
Each Scout will need to submit a minimum deposit of $100 to the Troop Treasurer before the end of February, so that we may meet our reservation payment deadline for merit badge course registration.
