Second Grade

process to product

As a continuation of their visual arts experience, by second grade students develop a more advanced skill set and greater dexterity, and now art becomes a tool for self-expression. This year the focus will be on the continued exploration of art materials, further development of skills, methods and techniques as well as being able to explore their personal expressions through visual media. Respectful personal and social behavior will be a continuing expectation. Connections will be made to influential artists, styles, genres and cultures. The emphasis at this level is both process and product, leaning children to a better understanding of proper material use in relation to their final outcome, and making intentional choices in our art. We begin to understand we are visual storytellers.
