Art for the first grade continues to focus on process rather than end result, leaning children to a better understanding of proper materials use, beginning understanding of the elements of art and art room expectations. I aim to strengthen art vocabulary and previously learned skills while building on prior knowledge. Students will engage in experimentation, play and sharing discoveries with one another. Skills in cutting, gluing, controlling line, brush work and working with clay will all be addressed. We will continue to make connections to influential artists and artistic styles/genre (such as portrait, still life, abstract, etc) and engage in cultural projects.
