week 6: Session with Artists

This week we are getting started on Part D of the Arts Award which is about sharing an arts skill with someone else. We'll be working on this over the next three weeks. The first step is that we'll do this week is to take part in a hands on workshop created by one of two artists who will show you how to improve your skills in one element of public art. You can choose from:

1) Maquette Making with Sally Hackett or
2) Action Painting with Margarita Vazquez Ponte.

We'll then ask you to share a skill that you learnt from the activity with someone else in your group who did the other activity. Don't worry you'll still get a chance to do the second activity in Week 8.

Please read pp.39 - 41 of the Log Book and fill in p. 42.

Action Painting with Margarita Vazquez Ponte

For this activity, you will need:
The paint (that we sent to you in the art packs, or you can also use your own if you have it)
Pipettes (sent to you in the art pack)
Paper
Pens/Pencils if you want to draw over your painted design.

This activity can get a little messy so please be mindful of that and make sure to cover the surface you're working on with a plastic bin bag etc.!

In this first video, Marga gives a bit of background on what Action Painting is:

Now watch the second video to see how to do the activity. Marga gives lots of different techniques you can use, you can try as many of them as you like!

Maquette Making with Sally Hackett

For this activity you will need:

The modroc Plaster of Paris bandages that we sent to you in your art pack

Masking tape

Some household recyclable items like food boxes, cartons etc.

Again it could be a little messy so make sure you cover the surface etc you are working on!
