St Anthony in El Ejido

Ribera D'Ebre students' mediation tasks

Task 1

Hi, colleagues,

We are very surprised about your Saint Anthony celebration

because there isn’t any celebration in our town.

Saint Anthony has been celebrated for 37 years in El Ejido. We

wonder what you did before 1985. In this event people meet

around bonfires. To light them, different runners leave from the

city centre with torches and go to start a huge bonfire in

another neighbourhood.

After that, people can have a barbeque using the small bonfires

around the huge one. We’d like to know how many bonfires you

have approximately. Moreover, pets are blessed. At the same

time, there is live music and fireworks lightning in the sky.

We really hope to hear from you soon.

Take care,

Task 2

Hi, Beatriz,

We’re excited about Christmas in El Ejido!

If you visit this city on winter holidays, you’d love to see the Nativity scene in the city hall, which measures 120m2 and has got 500 statues.

You can do other cultural activities because the city has plenty of them, for example, you can choose between outdoor theatre or a gospel concert. However, the most surprising activity is “zambomba flamenca” because we never heard about it before. It’s a traditional show with Christmas carols in flamenco music.

The most attractive activities for children are Santa’s float in different areas of the city, where they can give the letters to Santa, and the Three Wise Men’s parade. They arrive sailing in Almerimar, and they go to El Ejido, finishing the parade in a live Nativity scene.

Moreover, I know you’re a sportswoman, so don’t forget to race the popular San Silvestre competition.

Well, it’s time to say goodbye.

Best wishes,
