FiTEX - Traditions and Transformations
For thousands of years, textiles have reflected who we are and we have carried that history across continents adapting these techniques to suit the needs and available materials of our new environments. Textiles are not just a reflection of our past and origins, they reflect our longings and our aspirations.
The inaugural exhibit of FiTex - The Art of Fibers and Textiles, will celebrate America’s 250 years with a request for art that expands on the theme “The Threads That Bind Us”. Oftentimes, our first encounters with traditional forms of fiber disciplines are experienced within our families. These cherished moments plant the seeds of inspiration that propel an artform forward.
FiTex is committed to presenting the most thoughtful, original, and skilled craft and design objects. Artists who are currently working with Natural Fibers and produce one-of-a-kind or limited edition items are invited to submit their work for consideration. These works must have been conceived and perfected by the artist’s own hands and created in the artist’s studio. Whether the artist’s practice is centered around the preservation of a tradition or the re-imagining of a craft, FiTex is dedicated to showcasing these visions.
The Kitsap History Museum, the host venue, is located in the beating heart of Bremerton, steps away from all ferries in the scenic Kitsap Peninsula and a very short ride from the bustling City of Seattle.
