BEHIND THE SCENES CHAPTER!!!
I blink and suddenly, light flashes before my eyes, and then I’m standing in a wave of sand, my hair blown around by the strong wind.
“What in the…?” I turn in a circle, trying to figure out where in the world I am. My eyes latch onto a small shadowy shape in the distance, and I squint, trying to see what it is. I start walking towards it, and then suddenly, I freeze, hearing something.
Whoosh-whoosh-whoosh. Puzzled, I look up, then almost shriek with fear. I throw myself to the ground, hoping I won’t be seen.
Three dragons speed by overhead, their wings sending air gusts towards the ground below. I study the colorings and realize just where I am.
The dragon in front, the dragon I so carefully drew, and colored, and etched details, the dragon of which I developed every detail, every moment, every thought, action, word spoken, the dragon I brought into existence, was none other than the Sand-Aqua Dragon hybrid Prince Canyon.
I knew that I should get his attention, somehow. I really wanted to personally apologize to him for giving him the most complicated life ever, and the worst fate a dragon could have….
Also, I just felt bad over all for all the things that I made happen to him, and that STILL were probably going to happen to him in the future, if I ever got around to being motivated enough to put them down on paper.
So, it was because of this guilt, and also, I confess, my craziness, that I leaped to my feet and shouted, “CANYON!!!!”
The dragon froze in midair, causing, of course, a chain reaction, where the two behind him, which I recognized to be none other than Queen Cactus and his …. er.. that is... Quicksand, his…friend. I assumed, logically, that Sage would be on one of the three dragons’ backs.
Canyon looked all around. “Who said that?” he said in Dragon, which of course, I understood perfectly, because…well, I don’t think I need to explain again.
“IT WAS MEEEEEEEEEEEE!” I hollered back.
He looked around again, then he looked at his back, which was probably where Sage was, because the next moment, he looks DOWN, and voila, there I was.
He frowned, puzzled. Then a look of excitement rippled across his beautiful face, and he dove forward. (Not very thoughtful, considering Sage was unprepared for this, as is exemplified in a moment.) He realized his mistake, as the momentum flung Sage forward over his head…and down. I blinked, and then took off running. Of course, I’d never get there in time, but that wasn’t an issue. Sage would be fine. Nothing could happen to her that I hadn’t written out first. That was the best thing about being an author.
Sage, in fact, was fine. A flash of light and suddenly, she was standing in front of me. I stumbled back, startled.
“Hello.” She said. “Wait, who are YOU?” she said, puzzled.
“I’m—” I stopped, as Canyon tumbled to the group. Two soft thumps behind him, as Cactus and Quicksand followed suit.
“Sage! I’m SO sorry, are you okay?” he said, picking her up and studying her, looking for injuries.
She waved him away, “I’m fine, I’m fine. I didn’t even hit the ground, I just blinked in and out and suddenly I’m standing here in front of her.” She points to me.
Canyon notices me. “Ooooh. Another human.” He frowns, as if mystified. “I-you-but-you look…familiar, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen you before…how is that possible?” he mutters.
“Canyon, I’m sorry, I-I feel horrible for everything I’ve made you go through,” I say, avoiding his question.
“Huh. I don’t know what you’re—Wait. How do you know my name?” he asked.
Cactus laughed. “My son, I’m pretty sure almost everyone knows your name.”
“Yeah,” Sage said. “Famous and all.”
Canyon looked embarrassed. “Don’t worry, it’ll fade. But…not before you save the world.” I say.
He looks at me, surprised. “How do you know that?” he asks sharply.
I sigh and walk over, tapping his talon with my hand. “Because, Canyon,” I say. “I made you.”
