In this lesson, I taught students how to solve two step word problems. Since my students are in the 2nd grade and almost half of the class are ELLs, whose native language is Spanish, I decided to translate the word problems in the slides. This enabled my ELL students who can read Spanish, to follow along with the content within the lesson. Prior to this lesson, my Cooperating Teacher gave me feedback on a previous lesson I had taught and I tried to incorporate some of the reflections they pointed out to me. Therefore, I focus heavily on student discussion and soliciting answers, agreements, disagreements, and why from my students.Â
Additionally, because this was one of my first lessons, my cooperating teacher assisted me with time management and sticking to the class's routine to make sure the lesson was efficient and fit within the time frame given to teach.
