Acting as a representative for NCAA Men's Hockey in the 2025-2026 season, the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) aimed to democratically represent the varying opinions, ideas, and agendas of all sports teams on campus. With two representatives from each team, meetings consisted of planning, voting, debating, and executing on athletic activities and events with each and every athlete's preferences in mind. As a representative, some of the most important skills I've developed during my time with this committee are leadership, teamwork, public speaking, planning, and communication skills.
Below are a few highlighted events that SAAC organized for student-athletes in the 25-26 year:
Each team on campus was granted an exclusive game day that involved planning a unique theme around a home game. The event, hosted during one home game from each sports team, involved a creative dress code or theme, marketing from SAAC, and prizes, giveaways, or awards. The goal of the "Pack the House" events is to create support for sports teams at Marian, increase team spirit amongst the campus, and provide enjoyable events for students.
In an effort to give back to the community, our small work group planned to reach out to local elementary schools. Chegwin and North Fond du Lac were reached, and we successfully brought Marian student-athletes to local community schools and playgrounds to share recess time with young children. The event was a successful effort to give back to the community while creating a partnership with local schools in the area.
A celebration made for athletes, the Sammy's, was hosted by SAAC. The Sammy's is an award ceremony that recognizes some of the greatest achievements of the year from various student-athletes and sports teams. This event, an annual celebration, involves careful planning, award voting, and true democratic representation from leaders and representatives.
